I have a 300BO rifle I build with a 16" Bbl that needs something on top to work with irons.
I have been mulling an EOtech 512.

suggestions ?
experiences?
options?
opinions?

My only suggestion is get the AA model. Batteries are much cheaper and easier to get.

I do love my brothers Eotech.

I like them. I've used EOTech and Aimpoint, and at this point I'd get whichever had the better deal. The newer XPS models are shorter and lighter, but the older ones work just as well while costing less.

There is the battery life issue, but I never had one die on me. Just replaced the AA every six months and the CR123 on my birthday.

Good luck with this can of worms!

I would have to recommend an Aimpoint. I've had a T1 2MOA since it came out, have shot ~4k rounds through the rifle it is mounted on, I have left it on since I have got it, and it does not even hint at a loss of zero one bit.

There are also less expensive options like the Aimpoint PRO or you could grab a used M2/M3/M4 off the EE.

I have an EoTech 512 and I'm very happy with it.  I like the crisp 1 moa dot.

I have an Eotech 553 on my primary. Considering whether to move it to my 300 SBR when it gets in my hands, or put an Aimpoint on it. I've been happy with the Eotech and think it would be great for cqb. Need to spend more time with my buddy's Aimpoint and truly feel out which one works better for me.

I have looked "at" the Aimpoints but never shot with any.

The PRO that PSA had on sale a while back interested me as well

GBII with the AA battery so common made think along that line

Thanks

Have to EO and an Aimpoint.  Love them.  But you won't be able to get the accuracy fro a red dot that you can with a scope.  Maybe (for instance)  a Nikon M223 1-4x20 will be more accurate for the target shooting that I do.  (Have that Nikon, less expensive, and no batteries.)

that is why ALL my flashlights are AA. I'd rather give up a few lumins than not be able to find batteries when I need them.

If suppressors become legal to hunt with the role of the rifle will change and a scope would move to the top of the list.
In its current config it saw part time use last season anyway.

Same here. I can always rob the kids remotes if needed.

i picked up a like new used 512 with Larue mount, it has been very good and has not given any trouble. i was sceptical with all the Eotech hate, but at a super low price i took the gamble. i would highly recommend one, it's now on my second go to rifle

I started off with quite a few EOTechs.  I never had one fail me but the batteries do get eaten up pretty fast,  especially the AA models.  If you use AA Lithiums it lasts longer but only about 800-1000 hours total.

You can't leave EOTechs on as they turn off by themselves after about 15-30 minutes.

Aimpoints have 50, 000-80, 000 hour battery lives and you can leave them on for years without any issues.  That way it is ready to go without having to turn it on first.

Aimpoints have a better warranty and most models have replaceable outer covers to replace when trashed or if you want a new color.

I prefer Aimpoints.

Dont get one unless its one of the new XPS models with the battery horizontal.

I prefer Aimpoint to Eotech, but that is just preference. If I had to do it over again, I would just get a Vortex SPARC instead of my Aimpoint and Magnifier.

I love my EO Tech and my Aimpoint.  I think the EO Tech has the best reticle, the 100 moa circle is super easy to pick up indoors and the 1 moa dot is great for longer range accuracy.

I think the aimpoint is a better overall package though.

Aimpoints are generally thought to be the more reliable optic. However, if you're doing a 300 BLK build I would at least look at the dedicated 300BLK optic that Eotech just released.
