So I travel from time to time and have a new baby coming in 2 months. I want a security system set-up that doesn't require home phone. Perhaps something that can work over wireless Internet?
Anyone in here specialize in that kind of thing? Any suggestions? I already have external flood lights but want something to add to the house. THANKS AS ALWAY GUYS Eta: if I have to get home phone, I will. I just want something solid. |

Who do you have for ISP?
Comcast looks to be a good setup, but somewhat on the higher side (although you seem to get a lot). Here is the info: [URL=http://www.comcast.com/home-security] If you belong to an EMC for power, that is another good option that will work over Internet. I had Greystone and it was 18.95/month. I don't remember what the system cost me, but I spread it over the bill. Hope this helps. |

I just installed a GRS equipped home security system in my cabin. All components were wireless.
Stupid easy and no monitoring fee. It calls me and SMS's me if the alarm goes off. No monthly fee, just gophone minutes. Stuck a camera system in also, with the head unit in a hardened enclosure. Yes, we got broken into. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| I still say that wireless is not the way to go. You can get a cellular jammer off ebay for cheap that blocks all calls in a certain small area on CDMA and GSM. That renders the cellular portion useless. A hardline is much better unless you can't get one in a remote cabin. |

Yes, we got broken into. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Sorry to hear that! when did that happen? Did they get anything? I am curious on the go phone setup. Got any more info on that The break in was at the cabin. They got two older TVs, a 10/22, and a can of ammo. They came back a few days later and one of the neighbors held one of them at gunpoint until he got spooked by the other one. We have trail-cam pics and video of the perps and LEO has the serial numbers. I am hoping the pistol in the face has convinced them to hunt elsewhere. The truck had no tag so either local farm truck or they do this a lot. Sheriff got prints after the second break-in, so it is probably just a matter of time. At any rate I have taken the same direction I did at my house, and installed a somewhat non-standard alarm system. The basic unit is a Pisector GSM06. Uses a 2G SIM card and very easy to set up. Moreover it comes with several wireless device options that make customizing your setup pretty easy. Has key fobs for arm disarm and chirps the siren for confirmation, nice cause then you can set the alarm for zero delay. The base unit also has some inputs for hardwired alarms, so you can really have simple fun with how you protect things. Sends me SMS and calls. Battery backed, and it calls/texts if power goes out. All the neighbors are onboard with a new 'containment' plan that prevents egress but doesn't risk any valuable property, the road in allows for a very easy means of trapping perps until LEO can get there.
We don't and won't, keep any valuables up there, I am more concerned about vandalism. But it has now gotten personal and so I'm figuring ways to both prevent a repeat, and deal with one if it happens. You need to redo your avatar to be less grainy. |

I suppose in a more urban environment you might get that. It's only 1000sqft cabin, they only hit it cause it was empty all the time and clearly undefended. Bit of a mistake really, as they got peanuts and have put the whole neighborhood on alert and gotten everyone more involved in an action plan. That will wear off some over time. I am not even mentioning my truly nefarious plan. It is pretty damn sneaky and ALMOST makes me want them to come back. |
