126 Georgia Weapons Carry License (GWCL) background checks have been processed so far in January. We processed 102 in December, 49 in November, 57 in October, and 30 in September. Most months run closer to 30. |

When you renew in GA, do you have to be finger printed again? When I renewed this past summer (Cobb Co.), it was basically a re-application. Same fees, fingerprints, etc. The only difference was this time they took my picture for a slightly more official-looking ID card and the fingerprinting was electronic instead of paper and ink. If your current CWL is close to expiring, you can get an extension (90 days?) for a buck. You are obligated to carry around the extension with your expired license (it's an 8.5x11" sheet of paper). ETA: It takes the same amount of time for a renewal as a new application as well. Luckily, Cobb has shortened wait times dramatically in the last 5 years. The first time I applied and my first renewal took over or around 120 days! My last renewal was done in just under 30. |
| Houston county was claiming they had to go to appointments and were restricting them to 40 a day. Not sure if fast the appointments were filling up but one person I know was told either take off work early to come in the next day or they would have to wait a week for a late afternoon appointment. |

Our population is roughly 32K. |
| I applied for my renewal in Cobb County on 12/31. I arrived at 8:15am, filled out the paperwork, took picture, walked downstairs to get fingerprinted and found out there was a 5 hour wait. I was told they had about 100 applications every day during the holidays and well over 1000 for December. I went back at 7:30am on 1/7 and was first in line for fingerprinting. |

Still need to get my own GWCL. |

Slightly off subject, but how far in advance of your expiration date can you renew? I was thinking it was 30 or 90 days, but wasn't sure if it changed with the new license (I have the old photocopy/laminate POS). I've heard 5-6 months but I would call your probate court to confirm. I'm sure each one is slightly different. |

It expired in June and I was home on R&R in March, so I went down and did the paperwork. Mine came back 2 days after I flew back here. So 90 days seems to be GTG. |

Just remember, a new license is valid for five years from the date of issue, they don't add on unexpired time on your previous license, so I usually just renew the month mine expires and spend the $1 for the temporary extension until the new one comes in. |

Understood, but I'd prefer the lost time/$ over the hassle of worrying about the extension. |
