Quick question...

Who makes the a super-light AR?  While we can still buy them, I'd like to pick up two M4's.  I'd like to put together two builds, the first one super light for home defense purposes.  The other, I'll go the other direction for long-range (including a heavy, long barrel.  I'd like to keep the initial rifle cost to around $1,500 - $1,750.  

Any ideas?

I've spent a couple hours poking around the word-wide-web and have found a couple 6.0+ AR's.
 '
  - Colt                       AR6720                   6.2 lbs
  - Futon Armory       Liberator Carbine    6.4 lbs
  - Noveske               16" Recon               6.4 lbs

Any other suggestions?

USSA-1 has one for sale in the EE, reasonably priced I think.

When availalbe, both Spikes and PSA have lightweight uppers: "lite-profile, not pencil."  I have an iron sight, Spike's "not pencil lite profile"with magpul STR, magpul mid handguards, Ergo grip and Vickers sling weighing it at 7.2 lbs.

Clyde's is hard to bet for their price on complete Colt 6720's. The 6720 is a lightweight variant of the 6920 and a Clyde's Armory exclusive if I am not mistaken.

The Daniel Defense M4v5 is also one of my favorites. The 12" handguard of the v5 and v7 are suhweet.

Clyde's also has good prices on the two.

The lightest factory AR I have ever held was a pre-ban colt govt carbine. I have several and they weigh 5.7 pounds. Clyde's usually has a few on the rack for about $800-$850. They are usually agencies trade-ins which means Ty have been carried more than shot.
