Hey, Is anyone good with building AK kits? I have the opportunity to get an AKS 74 parts kit and would like to put it together myself as opposed to sending it off to someone. I was wondering if anyone local knew a lot about kits and wouldn't mind helping me out with putting it together / helping me get all the parts I need to finish it.

I'm pretty clueless as far as the AK platform goes and wouldn't mind being a little more knowledgeable.  Plus as far as I can tell you need specialized tooling (that I don't have). Anyone have anything they don't mind loaning out or letting me use?

Thanks guys,

Tom

I'm in Flowery Branch but I'm pretty mobile.  One caveat though is that I'll be away for training for the rest of the month.

I am very confident you could do this on your garage....

Not sure about anyone anymore that will walk you through it, but there was a guy that worked at a gunshop in Lilburn(main street?) that would build them for pretty cheap.

I have done it but choose to pay someone as I was never good at making it perfect.

Short answer is no. Best bet is to send it off to inrange.

I'm sure you could, but I'd really recommend doing these tasks in the garage rather than on the garage.  Especially if it has a steep slope, I'd hate to see parts roll off...

No press or rivet guns needed for this method, everything can be bought from www.ak47tools.com if you see it in the video but not on his website, contact them through the "contact us" link on his page and he can help you out.  Its kinda hard to want to spend the money on tools for one build though.  It might be a good idea to send it out.

I have a rivet on one of my AKs that busted. Anyone in the Cumming area that can replace it? I was going to run it up to Dawsonville Gun as I heard a rumour they have a smith on board but every time I go in there I misplace my cash......
