| So I'm toying with the idea of reloading and was wondering what the proper etiquette is for collecting your own spent brass is at a public range. I'm assuming if it is in my lane it is mine, however, brass flies all over the place. I know some ranges may want to resell brass, so I want to know the dos and don't before venturing in to reloading. I mainly shoot at Hi-Caliber, Big Woods Good, and Creekside. Occasionally I will go to Pannell's for a quickie shooting session but not very often. Thanks in advance for the help! |
| Check with your range first. Some ranges have signs or rules in their rule list that any and all brass shot on the range is theirs to keep. Unless you are using a shell catcher, it would be hard to proove all the shell casings are yours unless you use a very distict brand that nobody else is using around you. Some will work with you though. Just best to ask. |

Every range has their rules, so ask.
Generally I pick up what's in my area to clean it up. If some of it ain't mine, and the neighbors have already left, it goes in my stash because I'm not sorting then and there. I figure if I'm not dipping out of their brass buckets, it's not trouble. |

I'm not a Glock fan, but I love the 357 Sig. |

1. If it is hitting near me and the person is saving it I kick it back towards them during off time.
2. If its in the brass bucket or I did not shoot it its the ranges or owners. (Except 6.8SPC which falls into I think that must be my brass group.) 3. If I am hitting someone next to me with my brass I let them keep it they earned it. 4. If someone next to me is picking up my brass and I am not hitting them I reposition so it will fall under #3. 5. If I shoot it and its easy to pick up and something I reload I pick it up. |

Like most have said," If it hits the deck, it's the ranges to keep" (indoor range) but I would ask and see what they say. Usually, before I start, I try to kick most of the already fired brass, out of the way. After that, I figure it's mine, if I pick up a few extra, " sue me" Semper Fi |

Damn great set of rules right there.

What caliber do you want to reload? There are numerous sites that sell used brass cheap. It may be worthwhile to purchase 1000 used pieces of brass to start with. I plan on starting out with 9mm and .45 ACP then branching out from there. I have some guys I shoot with who don't reload so I'm thinking one trip to the range could net me a good stash of brass to start with. |
