I have my Firefighter 1 but I need to return and get my FF2. What do you do in the FF2 class @ GPSTC ??? I have had some breaks and some repairs so I am not the best runner anymore  and I dont think I could crawl the green mile anymore either

Crap, it's been years. Are you talking about Mod 2?  I am a FF1, which is first class, A combination of Mod's 1,2 and 3

If your talking about Mod 2. thats where most of your live fire training is. You will be in the burn house or tower for the majority of the class

What do you need it for?  There aren't that many places that REQUIRE NPQ2 before hire.  Any of the ones I've seen have their own fire academy and provide their own class.

From standards and training:

FF2

I don't think you have to PT at the academy.

We did pt like a mofo during NPQ1...
Most of the counties in my area require NPQ 2 and EMT I

Well maybe the PT would get you back into FF shape.  Could be a good thing.  You may be able to find an NPQ2 class at a local department if you don't want to go to GPSTC.  Where are you located?

FYI, the City of Newnan is looking for a certified firefighter. My brother worked there for 37 years before he passed.

As of a couple weeks ago, City of McDonough was hiring as well.  If they didn't require that their department be your primary employer, I'd have put in an application.  I could work a 48/24 if the second half of the 48 was with some place like McDonough.

Most FF2 is self study. You can get on Georgia Standards and Training and print out the practical sheets. Its little stuff like cranking a tool, hose testing, etc. I believe there is 7 stations. There is a written test you take at the academy prior to practicals. My department doesnt have a school for FF2, just a rookie school to get you through NPQ and the rest is on your own.

In the counties that I have been looking into, most require EMT-I and will provide the fire training if you are hired.
