So I ordered an external hard drive from amazon.com to copy all of my pictures onto so I could reformat my laptops hard drive . I've still got some kind of really bad Trojan on it.  Well, the as advertised new in box hard drive I ordered turned out to be used and broken, and not exactly cheap! So now I am stuck copyingthe files over the home network to the computer in the basement.  I says there is about 22 hours left to copy my files. Arghhhhhh

What part of GA?  and how big a drive you need?  - not a for sale ad - just have a few sitting around if you only need it for a while to copy files over

ETA: I am in the Kennesaw/Acworth area.

22 hours sounds severe. Are you on a wireless connection?  If so can you put it on ethernet temporarily?  I am in the downtown-ish area and can loan one too. I know I can loan a 300 gig USB.

Is there rsync for windows????  I would hate to get through 20 hrs and have your connection reset.  Copying probably isnt tthe best way of accomplishing this....but I am not a windows person either.

Yes there is!  I use it every day for backups. Install the cygwin shell (http://www.cygwin.com) and make sure you have rsync and openssh in the packages. It makes Windows life a LOT easier. Another option is Robocopy from the Powertools collection. I have both running all over the city.

Edit: I have showed that cartoon to everyone I could for years.
