I have a Pre-Ban Olympic Arms AR type rifle in like new condition - it has truly been a safe queen. I would like to sell it to finance a dedicated 3 gun AR. Does anyone have insights into how to value a Pre-Ban AR and how to sell to a" non-free state" to maximize its value?

i would say the law of supply and demand. several years ago a guy wanted to trade a M1Garand for a pre-ban stripped lower.   the ban had ended so i traded him.

Not really, I've been willing to sell my preban Colt's to folks up north in ban states but nobody wants complete rifles it seems, just the lower receivers, and I don't see much point in stripping down a Colt rifle to do so.  It pops up as a topic in GD on occasion, just look in the EE for what pre-bans are selling for and decide whether it's worth the hassle.

I am thinking around $800 or so would be a good place to start. You would likely get a chunk just for the lower if you want to keep the upper.

AS one behind enemy lines  in a ban state, I can tell you stripped lowers go any where from $400-$600, complete rifles dont' go for much more than comparable post bans, not sure why. You could probably get $1000 for it or so.

I sold a pre ban Bushmaster lower a few years back to a guy in NY. I think I got 500 for it. Stripped.

Now some pre ban mags I had I sold for like. Meaning I sent them to a guy in CT I think it was and he shipped me some new mags.

Post it in the EE and see how it goes.

It's been my experience that just splitting the upper from the lower on Colts would maximize the value 20-30%.  Olympics I'm not too sure on.  Try researching gunbroker and the EE.

$500-$600 for the lower and $250-350 for the upper (depending on the configuration).  $800 if you want to sell it quickly.   $900 if you are willing to shop it around or if it's a 16" in good shape.  $1000 is asking a lot.  The only pre-ban rifles I've seen sell for 1k sell in MA or NY and usually come with a letter from the manufacturer that it is in fact a pre-ban.

Great - thanks for the insights. I have the original bill of sale but I will contact Olympic and see if they can/will provide a letter.
