| Gunman shop a cop and killed one other. Is still on the loose on campus. |

Well it didn't look like it was the same kind of "school shooter" profile. Just getting hailed that way because the location perhaps? sounds like you are right, but its still an active shooter in a "gun free" zone. And the police officer, who probably did his job as best as he knew how, literally could not stop the shooting. Tragic, but really a superb example of why people need to take responsibility for themselves. As for the uniform...no idea... Remember we have SWAT officers around here who wear UCP and Urban-digi stuff. If that's the uniform, and then the gear is what he's also issued...that's what happens I suppose. Quoted:
It would now seem that the body in the parking lot is presumed to be the shooter. They found the weapon on it? |

So when the guy ran into the parking lot, he shot himself? Am I reading ya'll correctly? The news is reporting that the University is saying the 2nd body is the gunmen's, but the police aren't confirming it, just saying, "the situation is safe, and you can read between the lines." |

So when the guy ran into the parking lot, he shot himself? Am I reading ya'll correctly? That's what it's looking like. "Authorities believe that the second victim in the shooting is in fact the gunman, and that he suffered a self-inflicted wound, a law enforcement source told Fox News. Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/12/08/shots-fired-at-virginia-techs-campus-gunman-sought/?test=latestnews#ixzz1fzD5ZUC0" Also, what gets me is that they're saying he wasn't even the person in the vehicle the officer pulled over. He allegedly just ran up and shot the officer and ran off and shot himself. F-ing coward |

Very tragic, though. |

This is kinda off topic, but I find it interesting to see a guy who I presume is some sort of LEO wearing camouflage. Got me wondering if he was already wearing it, or if he changed into it to respond. Either way seems strange to me, but that's probably why I'm an IT nerd and not a high speed / low drag guy. Also his helmet and body armor are black and not camo, which seems to defeat the purpose of wearing camo. Anyone else find this strange or can explain it? I'm not trolling for militarization of the po-po comments either, it, just seems odd to me. ETA, maybe he got called in on his day off, and he'd been out hunting.
http://a57.foxnews.com/static/managed/img/U.S./660/371/vatech640.jpg ETA: Maybe this is their uniform, since given this guy's mustache, he's a different dude than the one above. http://a57.foxnews.com/static/managed/img/U.S./660/371/vatech3.jpg The reason you see SWAT guys in camo is because they have to be prepared to operate in a variety of environments. They obviously didn't pick multicam to blend in with urban surroundings, but its possible that next week they will be hiding in the woods where that camo pattern will be effective. i would be willing to bet they dont get issued 4 or 5 different uniforms for all the terrain that they may find themselves in. Instead, they probably get one or two which will work best with the majority of the stuff they do. My agency issues digital woodland camo uniforms. Its not meant to blend in with our armor vehicle during a house takedown, but it works very well when we are in the natural environments of the county. Some of the local agencies that have no true foliage (ie Atlanta) wear all solid colors for the most part. The money needed to outfit a full team with several different uniforms is probably better spent on other gear. Thats just my take. |

Yeah, if I were outfitting a group for this kind of frequency and mission, I don't think I'd be as worried about a full array of clothing for a bunch of environments, just a solid uniform with good proven utility. No experience, of course, but what the guys are wearing I would think takes a way back seat to what their capabilities are, as long as it doesn't hinder them. |
