I'm sure they weren't supposed to be sitting there and were asked to move several times. I'm also sure the police informed them of what was going to happen prior to the officer brandishing the pepper spray in the air for everyone to see. BUT STILL SHAME ON YOU... right???

I think the police need to get their money back from the pepper spray supplier. I've heard people say "that stuff will stop grizzly bears".
Look at the tape again. The protesters got hosed with the stuff and none ran screaming. None began trying to scratch their face off. None fell over crying and wiping their faces. None rolled around on the ground in agony. In fact none of them showed any reaction. |

The rights of protestors does not trump the rights of others to pass peaceably through campus. I have seen nothing that indicates the UC-Davis police were less than professional. The administration has spent the last week or so back stabbing the actions of the police.

As you stated there are a lot of more inhumane acts of violent police brutality. On the other hand, these kids were just simply sitting, and they were hosed with some type of spray. People could have easily walked by them, or through them without much difficulty at all. As you stated there are a lot of more inhumane acts of violent police brutality. On the other hand, these kids were just simply sitting, and they were hosed with some type of spray. People could have easily walked by them, or through them without much difficulty at all. It is kind of funny, but I think that some of the things they stand for are very legitimate concerns for the everyday American. I'm usually the first one to jump in and call out police officers when they are in the wrong. In this case I see a bunch of students who were given a lawful order to disperse, the were probably asked multiple times and even warned of what the consequences would be. I see nothing wrong with what transpired no matter how you feel about what the are protesting. |
