| Anybody know where i can get some security film for my basement windows? just moved into a new house not too long ago and have been trying to make the basement more secure. Already changed all the locks to ANSI Grade 1 locks and changed out the lock stops and installed 4" wood screws to secure them, i am going to have my gun room downstairs as well as the man cave and want to secure it as much as possible. haven't done anything for the windows definitely want the security film but cant seem to find any local. |

APC does sales & installs. They have a few videos of the stuff on their website.
If you get it installed, let us know. I'd be interested to hear about the clarity of the glass afterwards. |

Yes, it's a film that basically gives the glass a binding layer that doesn't allow someone to just break it. It can still be broken, or penetrated, just not nearly as easily. If you've ever broken a windshield, it's sort of the same concept as laminated glass.
The windows can still be forced open. Locks will break or pull screws out without a heck of a lot of effort with the right tools. |

Hmm Window Film....That is new to me. I looked at the video provided above and wow, just wow. What is that? A film you put on existing glass in your home or what? There are different thicknesses as well that give you more protection i dont know how much it matter though i have seen some stuff that says it will stop a round from a .357 but it was around $1290 dollars for a few feet of it. I really want to do it myself to save money but i havent been able to find anything outside of amazon and ebay but i would really like to get something from the 3m line. i guess brand doesnt really matter but the 3m stuff all seems to have good reviews, i know it wont stop somebody but it will take them longer and that might change thier minds since it wont be a simple smash and grab. |

| I would invest the money in a security system but first a nice safe if you don' have one. Then get some separate collectibles/firearms insurance which is cheap and much better than your homeowners. That looks like a novel idea for after you have done everything else. I bet you could slice right through it with a knife. |
