I drive my wife's old 92 Camry back and forth to work to save gas money.  My trick gets 14 mpg.  The water pump went out today and I need to get it fixed.  I am replacing wp, timing belt and seal, thermostat, oil pump shaft seal, cam seal, and crank seal.  Mechanic suggested adjusting the valves since it has 250k miles.  The car is only worth about 600.00 so I don't want to spend to much on it.  Should I get the valves adjusted for an extra 57.00?  Oh yeah... The reason for all the seals is a major oil leak I've been putting off .  I've gotten use to filling up with gas and oil at the same time.

Valve adjustment or not?

cars are still made without hydraulic lifters? ask him what the lash is and compare it to the fsm to make a decision. if they are solid lifters and have never been adjusted then it wouldn't hurt!
