I since I finally updated my iphone g3 (not the 3gs) to the latest version (4.??) it has ran slower than crap. I read an article on lifehacker about installing Whited00r to breath new life into my old phone. I have never tried to jail break the phone. Just a factory ATT phone.

Well I tried to install whited00r last night with no luck, get a "1604" error. Then tried to jailbreak it via blackra1n so I could try to reinstall whited00r. No luck there either. Apple will not let me install the 3.2.1 firmware either (got a "10xx" error). I tried it a couple different ways from a few different "how to" websites. Nothing seems to work.

With blackra1n I can get all they way to "wait for phone to reboot" and it locks down and will not reboot on its own. If I reboot it manually it stays in recovery mode or boots without the "freeze" icon.

Any help/advice? I don't really want to buy a new phone as this one is still good, just slow with the new 4.0 firmware.  I am running the most recent Itunes and firmware in the phone.

Getting old and left behind by technology sucks! lol

If you did a back up before you did the the update you can revert back.

The new OS is a 3G and 3G's killer.

Call me if you have any questions or problems.

I tried that already and got an error message that basically said "you can not install older firmware than what is available from apple on this phone, 4.2.1".

puddin,

I did a backup before I started tinkering and I got the phone back up and running with 4.2.1 firmware, which is what it was running before I started tinkering. Its still just super slow.

If it is running 4.2.1 you should be able to jailbreak it easily enough.

When you install cydia do not use the apple backgrounding and then install backgrounder from cydia.  Then SBSettings.
Between those two you can manage the apps that are running and stop errant apps from causing a slow or sluggish phone, not to mention helping battery life.

BS!  My 3G runs fine.  Once the apps are updated they run fine.  I'm in year 3 on my 3G and it's been jail broken and restored a few times.  Works great now.  Battery life is starting to suffer some.

Funny, there are plenty of Android users in GD that are doing exactly the opposite. A few even were shooting their phones.

My 3G sucks, and so does my wife's.  They cannot handle the 4.2.1 software.  I don't want to spend any more money on a new phone, nor do I want to sign on for another 2 years.  I'll probably get a 4 after the 5's come out, and they drop the price significantly.

Again, your 'computer' isn't slow, but your OS sucks.

You just need to jailbreak and get better tools for managing the apps.

Don't hate your phone, change it.  Let me know if you want help.
