I didn't realize until recently there were so many types of root beers in the market so I have been trying to find as many as I can lately locally.  Well...after hitting World Market, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Belly's I can't find anywhere else to track root beer down without ordering it online.

Does anyone know of any other places to find root beer in the Atlanta area?  Surprisingly after starting this and mentioning it alot of people seem to be root beer fans.

Pics of what I found so far.

I also don't drink beer or alcohol in general...this is asked alot. (no real reason, just don't like the taste)

I have heard people talking about A&W having a wooden keg of root beer but I can't figure out where to find one at.

The best root beer I have ever had is Hank's.  It is made in Pennsylvania and comes in bottles similar to IBC.   I can't find it anywhere around here, but I grab a few everytime I have to go to the Northeast for business.

i got pulled over drinking an IBC years back, the State Patrol officer was telling me "your pretty stupid for drinking in front of me on my highway boy". i can see his point i was like 22 and had long hair, typical headbanger back then. i told him, "yes sir, i'm enjoying a cold IBC, would you like some" my girlfriend and her 2 frinds thought that was funny and started laughing. he took the bottle and my DL and insurance card and stormed off to his car, he came back a few minutes later and handed everything back and the bottle was empty, lol. he told me "no smart ass comments" and told me to move on . i love IBC and everytime i see one i always think of that day . that officer was so sure he had a DUI

Nice local collection. I have found that there are roadside stands that sell different brands around here. Like the tomato house towards Cleveland and the Sautee-Nacoochee Store outside Helen. I was gonna say that you are missing Hanks.

You sir, are correct. Try around the deli counter. That's where my local FL sells it.

GAHunter95 turned me on to Sprechers. After you've had it everything else tastes the same. It's the #1 rootbeer I've ever had, and that's a tough race to win.

Whole foods has it in both the Roswell/Alpharetta and Marietta store that I have seen so far.  It's $5.00 a bottle.

Dad's rootbeer!  Thats what I used to drinkin Jersey growing up!!  You can buy it in the regular 2 liter up there though!

There was one time I had to go out and do something long distance for a customer, in Amish country.  I stopped and bought a jug of real homemade rootbeer from an Amish roadside stand.  I think it was real alcohol!!!!

I just placed an order online for Hank's Root Beer ( this damn thread made me crave it) and it wasn't too expensive.  $24 shipped for a 12 pack of bottles.   About the same price as IBC, but I think Hank's is better since it has a hint of vanilla in it.

I looked up Food Lion and the closest one to me is over 20 miles away, so I figured I would just have it shipped since shipping was free and no tax.

Root Beer is the best beverage out there as far as I am concerned.

I tried the regular Virgil's and the Special Edition Virgil's today.

The regular was good, the special edition was great.

So far my 2 favorite are Bulldog and Virgil's Special Edition.

Note for everyone.

Abita, Bundaberg, Bulldog, Oldtown, Maine's, Boylan, Dad's is at World Market.

Virgil's is at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Kroger.  Special Editions is at Whole Foods only.

Natural Brew is a Whole Foods and Kroger.

Boylans Natural is at Whole Foods.

Gales is at Belly's.

When I was in Sioux Falls last month I got a chance to try 1919 Root Beer on draft. Not on the fountain, it was at the bar on tap. It was pretty good. Very mellow, not too sweet, not too bitter. The frosted glass made it though.....

Somebody give me a layman's terms explanation of the difference between root beer and sasparilla.  I had a sasparilla from Cracker Barrel once.  It tasted like root beer to me.

A&W is a poor excuse for Root Beer. And the first one to mention Barq's gets a 00 Shotgun Blast to the forehead.

From everything I have read the wooden keg A&W they tap at the restaurants is 100x better than the bottled crap.

Hell....I just want to find a keg of something other than Virgil's for my UFC nights.

ikickhippies,

What am I missing locally?  Food Lion and the Wine place mentioned here have something I don't have yet, aside from that I am out of places nearby.

I live in Canton.

Honestly dude you're doing pretty damn good for local stuff. Only thing I really see missing is Hank's which is an easy fix. Short of that you'll have to start ordering and that gets expensive quick.

I have never been able to acquire a taste for root beer.

I've tried several different brands over the years but never have I found any that was even remotely palatable.

If you get the chance, try Henry Weinhards root beer.  It is only available out west but it is the best root beer I've tasted so far.  Its made with real honey and has a distinctly different taste than other root beers I've tasted.  You can order it online but I usually wait until I go out west and then bring some back with me.

I "supposedly" have someone shipping me some from out West from another forum where we have a root beer crew.
