I had some issues with some HP units with loose connectors - sent them to a guy I found on ebay and got them fixed up. But if the MB is damged  - good luck

if the board isn't cracked, meaning just the solder joint is messed up then it's an easy fix.

actually, the problem might not seem all that bad  to you guys anyways.  its the actual plug that goes into the laptop that broke.  easy fix: buy a new power chord.  but the huge problem is that a couple months ago, i cracked the screen pretty bad. so its not worth buying a new power chord for this thing!  the laptop is just old enough to make it not worth investing repair money into, but my low pay situation is where it will be a month until i can afford another cheapie computer!  damnit! oh well, I'll live! a coworkers Facebook're me and said he might have a power chord he can lend me.  it might keep ne on ny internetz and on ny feet until i can get another computer!

sometimes you can find used power cords on the cheap on ebay, amazon, etc.

I had to replace the power cable on my wife's HP laptop last year. It was a PITA to replace, but it was only a $10 part.

ETA: the screens are pretty easy to replace yourself. If you google your laptop model #, you can probably find an online repair manual in pdf format.

You can sometimes find replacement display screens for laptops cheap on eBay, I've had to replace a couple of them over the years.

I've replaced the screen (kid) and the charger (puppy) on my 4-5 year old Lenovo.  I think I've spent $150 in repairs so far using parts from eBay and Amazon.
