I just got off the phone with them about volunteering to clean up Big Hammock range. Looks like next year you get to pay a range fee at GA WMA's unless you have a WMA Stamp.
I think you should pay a fee to shoot or have a WMA permit. Maybe it will help keep the free loaders out, they leave a mess for the rest of us to deal with ETA: I think everybody that uses the WMA should pay. |

Haven't we already paid enough to use them when they were purchased with taxes dollars levied on ammo, guns, hunting licenses ETC...??? You are already forced to buy a WMA stamp to hunt on the property. Bird watchers, bikers, hikers and the like are allowed to use WMA's free of charge although it is unlikely they helped purchase the property including the bums in these groups that leave trash laying around and otherwise abuse the facilities. It's much the same as bike riders on the street that enjoy all the rights and privileges someone driving a car yet they do not pay a usage fee. When they start charging ALL people that use WMA a range fee would be welcomed. I'm a firm believer in the "You play..you pay" concept however that's not the American way. TD |
| I went out to Richmond Hill WMA and shot on Sunday. I was there from around 3 to 5:30 in that time DNR was there pretty much the entire time and I seen them write at leat 4 tickets for shoting improper targets. It was nice to see hopefully they can get some of idiots out of there that like to shot stupid shit like TV's and Computers. They even wrote a ticket to the guy next to me whos son was shooting a sporting clay. I am all for having a WMA stamp to shoot at the range but I dont think I would want a range fee everytime I went out there unless it was like $5 for the day. Hell the ammo cost enough to keep me from shooting very often as it is. |

I agree that ALL people need to pay to use the WMA. Just playing devils advocate so don't shoot me... So if every one pays to use the facilities (trails, lakes, camp grounds, shooting ranges, lodges, etc...) on the WMA's wont those that pay want some sort of say in how the WMA is used? Mountain bikers wanting to use the trails w/o horse poop...horse back riders wanting to use the trails w/o having the mountain bikers spooking their horse's? Campers wanting to enjoy the silence of the woods w/o hearing gunfire? Everybody wanting to shoot their new rifles, pistols, shotguns, black powder, etc... at what ever they want to shoot at every time they go to the range? I'm sure there are are reasonable answers to these questions and the other questions/problems that will come up when public land is used by the public. Just imagine a PETA group getting onto a WMA's during a dove hunt or other quota hunt weekend. It happens & there are laws against harassing the hunters but the argument has been 'we paid to be here and we don't like hunting going on while we are here'. Part of the problem is trying to make everyone happy in a PC kind of way...its not gonna happen one group or another is gonna get the 'wittle fweelings hurt' because they did not get their way even though they paid their way in. If you really want to here some really silly shit storms sit in w/ the GON crowd, GWF crowd, Georgia Offroad, SORBA meetings, horse back riding forums, etc... and you'll see the same groups arguing why they should have their way over any others. There is some common ground, we all want to access to the resources the state sets aside. Because of that I agree everyone should pay for a WMA stamp for annual use, a weekend rate and a daily rate. And I believe the rules should be there for safe use of the land first, preserving the land and separating opposing groups when either users interfere w/ the others (ie no mountain bike races during the hunting season - did that once in Dawson Forrest, we weren't racing but there was about 20+ of us in the woods that weekend, kinda of spooky running into several dudes in the woods wearing their safety orange )
In honor of the 'Blue Collar Tour' "I believe"...I'll step down of my soap box now. 7mm |

The people that foot the bill should have the loudest voice however that is far from the case is these once United States.
The problem with the above scenario is someone might get their feelings hurt and it just ain't fair A welfare mama that has been a burden on the system since she was brought into this world by her welfare mama gets the same vote at polls as a business man employing 300 people paying taxes 6 ways to Sunday. This also reminds me of Congress-Critters that vote them self a pay raise using MY tax dollars to fund it. Something is BAD wrong with the once United States!!! TD |

... people that foot the bill should have the loudest voice ...
TD I heard the same thing coming form the GON, GWF & SORBA crowd when at some of their shows, diners, meetings & rides. It was pitiful when one side would not compromise one bit. What I saw was the hunting crowd did not want to give the non or anti hunting crowd a voice at all, can't blame them but just damn. The tree hugger's were absolutely nuts and would not tolerate anything that made noise or left a mark.
Like I said make all pay and make rules to play by that cover safe use of the land & protecting the land...can't we all just get along. 7mm |

Just re-read stryc's OP... How about adding a carry in carry MORE out rule.
Pickup a a trash bag or cardboard box at the check station (remember there is now a check station to make sure you have paid by day, weekend or WMA Stamp 7mm |

Wasn't it a year or two back when it was underwater? Wish we got that some of that rain now. I hear it's a no shotgun range The only WMA range I've ever been to was the one in Richmond Hill. It's been a few years since I've been, but if I remember correctly it's a no shotgun range as well
I live outside of Glennville and we don't have any shotgun ranges around here |

Man we are spoiled down here at the West Point WMA, I just havent seen near the problems ya'll talk about. I feel that if people want to use the facilities, they need to be told that it is a WMA, i.e. a hunting area first. Thats what the land is set aside for. If you want to camp, go to a State park. Want to ride horses, go to the horse parks we pay for. Want to walk in the woods, go to the city park. Just saying.
There is a lot of Corps property I pay extra to hunt on and some of it borders houses and neighborhoods. I have been in the woods, during hunting season and people are just strolling around with their dogs, as if they are looking for something bad to happen. Why not just go stand in the middle of the road? We have let all common sense fly out the window, nobody wants to actually tell people how it is. If its a hunting area, stay the hell out during hunting season. I don't go walking through the park with my rifle because that would just freak everybody out, even though its legal as hell to do. So why isn't it the same to ask for a little consideration when it comes to WMA's and the like? |

If it is a Wildlife Management Area, than let hunters manage it. Common ground can be had. WMAs closed, during Hunting seasons, to all activities not related to hunting. Open to all activities when no game is in season. just my .02 worth. Rich |

A "user fee" paid for use of government facilities or services is nothing more than a creative new tax. You are paying to use your own land.
Any money the government gets from any small group of us, they collectively get from all of us. I'm tired of the creative new taxes and fees we are getting from every level of government. They need to cut spending - not increase revenue. Once you see a fee like this - it will never go away. What's next? Pay to park in your own driveway? Pay to swim in a creek? What is happening to us? When are we going to make a stand?

I live outside of Glennville and we don't have any shotgun ranges around here LOL............I picked up an assload of shotgun shells there today
After cleanup. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e333/strycnine/th_FILE0001-1.jpg I have never been to that WMA. I usually just go down to the hunting club(less than 1/2 a mile from that range) and shoot, but my uncle, who has the lease on the 500 acres hasn't communicated with me or the rest of the family since October
I try not to piss my neighbors off too bad when I shoot the guns in the backyard
Last year I bought a new shottie at 9:30 in savannah that I was dying to shoot. Got home around 1am, shot it twice. Next day the neighbors were giving me the finger
I almost forgot to mention that I can hear that asshole shooting his AR continuously from my my tree stand. Between that, the guys going crazy with the muzzleloaders and the occasional 30-06 shot, no wonder I didn't get a deer last year...... |
