Does anyone have a hand load they works for them in a bolt action they would like to share?  Going to be running it in a Rem 5R.

Good general accuracy load is Win Brass, Wolf Primers, Sierra 175gr HPBT, Varget Powder.

Been shot across several different rifles and produces sub .5 moa groups when I or my buddy remember to do our part.

how hot do you load it... I have heard that load range from 43-45.6

M118LR brass
Federal 210M primers (Wolf large rifle is an acceptable substitute)
43grns RL15
Sierra 175grn Match King
OAL 2.820"

That duplicates the factory M118LR load. Shoots great in every rifle I've used it in, bolt or autoloader.

I used to use Varget. I found it to be temperature sensitive and with great variances from lot to lot. I've had a lot better luck with RL15.

Thats funny Varget is supposed to be the temp insensitive one and RL15 is supposed to be very sensitive.

Right now my go to load is 44.2 of varget...obviously you need to work up your own load though.  Though for my rifles thats not a hot load, but its very consistent and accurate be it winter or summer.

haven't looked availability, but i like 168's too.  loads will be very similar for the two.

Just for reference the Nosler 168's shoot just as good as the 168 SMK's out of my rifle and I have heard some with the same experience over at the hide. I don't know if that equates to the 175's but Midway has them in stock.

Yep, the Nosler 168's are a great bullet.  Black Hills uses 'em in their 168grn match load.

I just wish they still had the buy one get one free deal on their ammo from Nosler, good stuff.

Honestly unless your shooting benchrest I wouldn't waste the money on the Lapua Brass.  If you ever intend to shoot a match or something where you might lose the brass you'll be kicking yourself in the ass for losing it.

Lapua brass is great stuff, as is Norma and Nosler Custom.

For best results you wi need to sort your brass volumetrically. Sorting brass by weighing it is a waste of time, as a large portion of that weight is in the rim and web and has no bearing on case volume.

Doesn't 175, such as M118LR, give a little bit more range?

They do tend to carry better at ranges in excess of 650yds or so.  If all your shooting is under that distance, then it's a moot point.

This is the load I run and it works great in my short gun. I do believe I also have a load for the Sierra 155 Palma

Yep, I ain't seen a rifle yet that load didn't shoot well out of.

It's not as good as fine-tuning a load specifically to your stick, but I've seen it go .5MOA and better out of numerous rifles, including both of mine.

Loads for a remington 5R... hmmm  let me see, I might have run across a few..... Actually if I was at home I could scan and send you about 3 full pages of loads and results for alot of bullets and powders and even some good AR10 loads. But top of my head my favorite gets it done everytime loads are as follows. .

using Mil cases and mag primers or mil primers with 175's

H4895  42.5
RE15    44.3 << consistantly 1/3 MOA in my 5R

Also, you can substitute a 190 with the 175 by reducing the H4895 to 41.5 and the RE15 to 42.5-43.5. My all time favorite load is using 44.3 of LR surplus powder, the military RE15. Some reason its just a hair better for me and alot cheaper

Using Winchester cases, you can go up some. but will be hard to beat the accuracy of the above. Best to save the Win cases for RE17 loads pushing 185 and above bullets beyond what would think is possible with heavy dense charges. Or a 208 Amax at 2700 fps.

Pretty sure its not the load your running. seeing that I made most of them. 44.3 is the charge you run. Its a dupe for a different year of m118LR, the newer stuff is a little weaker, 06-10 lots i have seen 44.7, 44.3, 43.7, 43.2 and 43.0  44.3 just seemed to work best in my rifles and yours too Fro. ;) The LR I was issued from the Team was 44.3 and shoots great. And with the lot of pull down LR powder I have its a dead match. RE15 is from the store is pretty damn close, but a tad hotter. I don't have my numbers in front of me as I am away from my favorite room righ now. But I want to say 2650 ish from my 5R and about 2550 ish from your short tube Fro.

Edit, I think it was 2650 ish from 5r..  it is a great load.

Per Jonathan

I'm running that load now too:
- Fed 1x brass
- 175 SMK
- CCI Milspec primers
- 44.3 gr of M118LR pull down powder (~R-15)

Runs 2460 out of an LMT MWS 16" and 2680 out of a Rem700 with a 26".

Fantastic load. Better than .5MOA in the Remmy and about .75 in the LMT (which ain't bad with the chromed barrel).

Seems i should have checked my brass inventory before ordering another 500 brass...

I found about 400 brass last night head stamped with NATO symbol and 08... Are they worth fooling with?

Side note... I did almost fill up a 5 gallon bucket with LC 07 5.56 so it was a productive afternoon!

Variances in the charge weights for the same basic load goes to show you the differences that occur when you use a different brand of brass, or different lots of powder.

i use 43.2gr of IMR 4064. thats the FGMM load and it works damn well in my remington 700 pss. it will shoot half inch groups at 100yds out of a totally stock gun. i use federal primers and lake city surplus brass.

2 good loads in my rifle are ––––-

175 sierra mk ––- seat 10-20 ths off the lands
Lapua brass
CCI benchrest primers
43 grns Vitavouri  N-140  ––- 2650 fps out of 26 in barrell

175 sierra mk ––- seat 10-20 ths off the lands
Lapua brass
CCI benchrest primers
45.7 grns Vitavouri  N-550  ––- 2650 fps out of 26 in barrell

The 550 powder is a more temp sensitive than the 140 , but you can push a 175 a lot faster  with the 550. With the 550 I can push them up to 2850fps before i start seeing pressure sighns . If i go past 2650fps with the 140 I will start getting pressure sighns, But that is my barrell and it will be different for YOUR"S

There is nothing wrong with win or rem brass but Lapua brass is worth the money no matter what you shoot . you will see a huge difference in your extrems spreads compared to win or rem brass and you won't be sorting/grouping case's
with the lapua like you will on other cases.
