Is .45 long colt a special bullet, or is it the same as .45? My friends father in law has a 1911 and says it only takes a "special 45 long colt revolver ammo"
is this possible? |

A .45 long colt will not work in a .45 ACP gun. The LC is a rimmed case originally designed for black powder thus it is a long case. The physics of say a 1911 wouldn't allow it to fit.
The only possibility would be handloads with a lead bullet designed for a .45Lc but in a .45 ACP case. Sticking a 250gr lead bullet in a .45 ACP was a trick used for pin shooting back in the day. Doing so isn't too bad with lead, you just have to be mindful of you true barrel diameter and pressure signs. The .45LC bullets are .452 in diameter while the .45 ACPs are .451. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the response guys....im going to try and get the weapon from him and take a look at it. All i know, is that its a Colt 1911. My friend has tried getting .45acp ammo at walmart, but he refuses to use it, saying it needs a special "45 colt" round (hes anal about particulars).
Ill update when i find out! |
