Hey Guys, While at home for the thanksgiving holidays I learned that my pops had applied for his CCW permit on Sept. 8th of this year and has not recieved it in the mail yet. Is there a way to check on the status? He said that while getting fingerprinted the "government" employees barely new how to fingerprint him and had quite a time helping him get through it.

Appreciate any replies

I hate that he had trouble getting his permit. Just speak to the probate court and they should know.

The form basically amounts to a 4473 and one index finger print, I was in and out in 5 minutes, and $55.

First thing to do is to have him call the Probate Office and check on its status.    September exceeds the allowed time for the Judges to issue the license so either there is a screwup or Pops is ineligible.

Check out this page for the required time limits on the Judges to issue licenses.....

Assuming the Probate Judges are going to back to their old ways, you can sue them for compliance and get your money back.   See the following section

(j) When an eligible applicant fails to receive a license, temporary permit, or renewal license within the time period required by this Code section and the application or request has been properly filed, the applicant may bring an action in mandamus or other legal proceeding in order to obtain a license, temporary license, or renewal license. If such applicant is the prevailing party, he or she shall be entitled to recover his or her costs in such action, including reasonable attorney's fees.

This happened to me 5 years ago. Probate court told me they mailed it I told them I did not get it they issued me another one. the probate clerk told me that if the original turned up to let her know. My neighbor walked over to my house and said she had a letter for me. It was my original CCW permit. It had been in her house for 2 years and 10 months!!! WTF!!  I reported that back to the probate court.  Good Luck.
