Hi Everyone.

I don't have a name yet, but I'm a registered female Great Dane puppy that will be living with Adam, his wife, and their other dogs. I'm only three weeks old right now, so they will have to wait until Christmas week to bring me home. Don't tell Lexxy, the teen aged human, though since I'm one of her Christmas surprises.

They already have five dogs living with them. The boys are Sam and Riley. They are both lab mixes. They also have three girls. They are Liberty, the 2 1/2 year Great Dane who is deaf and blind, Phoebe, the Jack Russell Terrier, and Katy, who is a Mixed Terrier.

Adam was thinking of calling me Freedom to go with Liberty's name, but thinks that maybe that's too much of a boys name. Jenn is thinking of Sophie or Belle (pronounced belly).

What do you think would be a good name for me?

Congrats on the pup.  I have two, almost three year old great danes.  One female and one male from the same litter.  We named them Maximus and Maia.

Since she is a Great Dane, Dana might sound good.

My parents had a black lab named Liberty.  They now have one named Spirit (as in the spirit of America) .

Name her Io. The Greek nymph who was turned into a cow (considering how big Danes get it may be fitting).

It's a Harlequin, right?

Harley

Strong American name that symbolizes toughness, brute strength, size and loudness.

I have a GSD named Zeiss.  Of course after Carl Zeiss from Weimar, Germany.

So since Great Dame's origin comes from Germany, bread to hunt wild boar.  I vote:

Eva... After Eva Braun (no history lesson needed I hope)
Lise- After Lise Meitner who was a German physist who helped discover the element protactinium. Element 109 is named meitnerium in her honor.( long story why)
Maria- After Maria Goeppert-Mayer another German physist who grew up in Germany and helped design the nuclear bomb.  Also became a professor at the Institute for Nuclear Studies in Chicago.
Berta- After Berta Karlik - she succeeded in proving the fact that the element 85 exists in nature, and therefore closed the last gab in the periodic table.

Those are my votes... Then again I’m a chemist so I am partial to the people who helped my get where I am today.  Eva just for historical / psychological purposes of course.  Then again maybe not for the same reason…
