I just heard about this cartridge last week. Looks impressive from what little I have found on it.

Anybody know anything about it? Own one? Seen one? Shot one?

Look at the 300 BLK, by AAC and Remington. It is a 30 cal bullet in a 5.56 casing.

Same bolt, mags, and everthing else. Just need a new barrel.

Bonus, subsonic rounds are available!!!!!! Looks like 500,000 rounds being produced this month.

The round is not licensed, and can be made by anyone, along with the barrels.

No more worries about proprietory rounds, like the 300 whisper.

Two totally different cartridges.

I had an 11" 300 Whisper SBR (about the same as a 300 blackout) built up at GAP a few years ago. Fun, but expensive to shoot when slinging 240gn SMK's down range.

The 30 OSSA pushes a .308 cal 150gn bullet about 100fps faster than a 30-06 and this is done with a 22" barrel on a standard AR15 lower. Its just a 25WSSM necked up for 30 cal.

The more I look around at the 30 OSSM the less I am beginning to like it. Only options are complete uppers or rifles from Olympic Arms, Accuracy Systems or Dtech. What little info I can find on the uppers folks are less than pleased with the accuracy on the factory Oly uppers with factory ammo (HSM).

I think you would be happier with a 260, 6.5, or 308 platform. My guess is you will have pretty anemic mag capacity like a 458 SOCOM and not many advantages.

I have never been happy with the AR10's due to the weight of the platform and I no longer own any....or have the desire to own another.

I would just like something with a little more spank behind it for hunting in a lightweight package based around the AR15. From the reviews I am reading I am now nowhere near as excited with the 30 OSSM and all of the proprietary parts that only 3 vendors will sell you ONLY as a complete package. Thats what kept me from buying one of the 223WSSM uppers too. Oh well....

The 300 BLK looks pretty damn close to 7.62X39. Did Remington & AAC turn the clock back to 1943?

With ballistics like this I see no need to tote around a heavy AR10. I just want more vendors for parts to build your own. Cant say I am thrilled to ONLY get stuff through 3 vendors.
