One day Shotgun Operator's Course
This one day course is suitable for pump or semi-automatic shotguns and will be broken into two sessions. The morning session will be primarily drills designed to increase the students' ability to keep the shotgun in the fight. Ammunition selection, choke selection, gear set-up, stance, manipulation, immediate action drills, malfunction clearance, select slug drills, slug zeros and accuracy, and various reloading techniques (strong hand, weak hand, traditional combat load) will all be addressed. The afternoon session will focus on various combat and competitive drills designed to increase the shooters' ability to shoot multiple targets rapidly while moving, to move into and out of various shooting positions or boxes, Texas stars, speed shoots, and shooting problems designed to get the shooter to "change gears" to address specific shooting problems as they occur on the street or in a course of fire. Students will need a working shotgun, 200 rounds of decent quality birdshot, 25 slugs minimum, a handgun with 50 rounds, shotgun ammunition carriers, a safe holster, magazine/speed-loader pouches, two spare magazines or speed-loaders for the handgun, eye and ear protection, water, and a sack lunch. The instructor is a POST Certified firearms instructor and will provide a C-12 for eight hours shotgun training to any certified law enforcement officer completing the course. This course will be taught by Joe Satterfield . Cost: $75 http://www.creeksidefiringrange.com/classmatchlist.html |

I heard that Satterfield guy just won the gold medal shooting for the US Team standard manual division at the recent Pan American Shotgun Challenge. Him and HTF member Cold were two of the 4 that represented the US Team and brought home Gold medals.
I know Joe and he is a great instructor. AND.....he has one helluva mustache. |

I would like to go but I am in a wedding that weekend.
Side note If you (or any of you know of any where) have any more coarses that i can claim on a C-12 please let me know. Training budget is next to nothing and we aren't allowed to go to state courses without work sponsorship. I would be more than happy to shell out my own cash for some fun...i mean training. have fun guys |

AAR from today's class
This was a great class for people interested in competition shooting or combat/defensive techniques. We covered a variety of topics including: different loading styles, select-slug drills, moving and shooting, support-side transitions, transition to handgun and methods for employing a shotgun in close quarters. The class had a mix of shooters from different skill levels with different equipment, but all seemed to be very pleased with the value of the class. We started at 10 and shot until around 6pm with a short break for lunch. Key lessons learned in the class (by me): - a shotgun is much more versatile than a lot of people think - roll-over strong hand loads from a side saddle can be very fast - federal flight-control buck is the heat and is capable of knocking a plate off a Texas star at 60 yards in a 14" 870. - I need to practice more This was my first class with Joe Satterfield (though I've shot with him a few times). He is a great instructor, easy going and knows his shit. When this class comes up again I highly recommend it. |
