Hi All
My wife is getting a transfer to GA she will be working from home but will have to travel to Savannah and Augusta to her clinics, she is telling me she likes the feel of Augusta, any recommendations for areas or other towns cities nearby anywhere to avoid? Maybe I can finally find some good ranges and I am hoping a sporting clay club been a real dry on the shooting since we have been here in FL Thanks Pete |
| If you're going to be in the Augusta area, I'd recommend any of the surrounding counties(Columbia, McDuffie, Burke, Aiken(SC), Edgefield(SC). I moved into Richmond last year because I was ready to sell my old house in Columbia Co. that we outgrew and was offered my wife's grandmother's house for dirt cheap. But I wouldn't have chosen Richmond otherwise. Too many political negatives. BTW: If you move to north or west of Augusta, you'll be represented by Paul Broun (GA-10); who has never given anybody on our side a reason to not like what he's about. |

Quoted: Augusta stinks - literally and figuratively. It is not called Disgusta for nothing. Stay away if you can. If your wife is going to travel between Augusta and Savannah, somewhere near Statesboro would be good...closer to the ocean and further away from Augusta. I agree with this post. |

I've lived in Augusta my whole life. After my .mil stint, I plan on moving back. GTFO if you don't like it!!! |

He wanted to live somewhere between Augusta and Savannah, so Statesboro is a possibility. I'd choose it because it is much closer to Savannah and the ocean. Plus it does not stink to high heaven. |

Only south Augusta stinks. Colombia county around Evans is actually much nicer. And also only 20 mins from the lake...... and no it doesn't stink. +1 on that. Columbia county and Evans especially is a really nice area. There are some really nice areas close to Clarks Hill Reservoir too. Id stay away from Richmond county because its mostly Ghetto. |

Augusta is as bad as people make it out to be, good eating places, i've met some very nice people here, a couple of good gun shops(Waldens), Columbia county has EXCELLENT schools. great medical here also. if you come up to visit, let us know. i'm sure we could show you around |

Augusta as a whole does not stink/suck/ghettofied/etc. It's actually a really nice town once you learn the areas.
Just like any other city we have our 'problem areas', and our racial issues. But I can promise you, we are not as bad as Atlanta. Screw that place! |

I've found savannah to be much more reasonable in terms of their elected officials than augusta. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile ROTFLMAO! I'd say they're both on par.... Look in the rural areas. You can get a LOT of house out in the Millen/Sylvania areas and be equidistince from both Augusta and SAV. SAV is EXPENSIVE for anything decent. Just a FYI. Augusta is much cheaper and you get more home. Chatham county is one if not the most expensive property tax in GA as well as ad valorem tax on your vehicles. Yes, you have to pay tax on your vehicles once per year on your birthday. Happy F'n Birthday. Last years cost me $600.00 for a 2008 H3 hummer and 2006 Harley fat boy.... |

I didn't know the ad valorem was Chatham county specific. I thought it as a state wide thing. I'v always wondered why the hell I had to pay the stupid crap. It is state wide, but there is a certain amount of it that is dictated per county. Some counties are more, some less. Mine together was more than most counties in Georgia. The property tax is higher here as well. Ga Dept of Rev Link for the Millage rates per county in GA - Lower = lower property taxes. As a rule of thumb, my home in Chatham county (Pooler, GA) gets hit for the State, School, city of Pooler and incorporated chatham millage rates (.250, 13.404, 4.500, and 10.537 respectively) and I pay $920 every 6 months to the state/county and $370 every 12 months to the city of pooler in property taxes (roughly $2200 per year) based on an assessed value for tax purposes with homestead exemption of $177K.
