SO the wife is letting me spend some money on a new firearm These are the new one's that have out. Does anyone have input on these handguns? The second question is....I am also looking at saiga 12 gauges.....if YOU had the choice...would it be handgun or the saiga? |

If you do not have a pistol, I say go that route. I use to have a G22c that was chambered in 40 S.W. and I did not like it, but that is me (now G17 in 9mm). If you have a local range that has pistol rentals in different makes and calibers, go up there one day and try them out. As for the Saiga I have held one but never fired one, and I have my reservations about a magazine feed shotgun. Good luck. |

Why 40 S&W? I'd like to know, too. I was a .40 guy for 10 years before someone put a Sig226 in my hands, and I haven't looked back. I'd definitely get the pistol if you don't have one already and save the Saiga for later. (Although I did use the Saiga last week and love it...) |
| Go with Pistol. I am not a fan of the .40S&W or Smith for that matter. I have had poor customer service experiences with them twice and there will not be a third. I would go to the local range and talk to people and try out a few platforms and cals. b4 deciding on a pistol. Get what feels right in your hand. I for one hate the way Glock pistols point and feel in my hand not to mention I really have to focus and take my time to shoot one worth a crap. But my XD45 feels great in my hand and hits right where I point it. I do like the feel of the new M&P line but being it has the Smith name on the side of it I wont even consider buying one. |

My wife and I have 40 S&W Glocks( model 22 & 23 ) we use for tactical shooting and work great. Also they are easy to modify the triggers and update the barrel to competition barrel for about for $100.00 to $150.00. All kind parts and accessories at low dollar amount. Check it out at : WWW.LONEWOLFDIST>COM. That's IMHO. If you have more questions IM me.

Thanks folks...I think the pistol is the route I'm going. I think I would get weird looks and tazed if I was walking around with a 12 gauge strapped to my back.. The reason I was look at the S & W 40 is my friend just bought one and I was holding it. I loved the way held. I'm also going to look at the 9 as well. I owned a Taurus 45 and didn't like it's bulkiness. I will also look at what else is available at my price range which is right at $500 give or take ..... My wife's stipulating is the more I spend, the better the vacation we have to take. {Florida beach or Caribbean beach}

You need to hold more guns first. Look at a Kahr 45, then try a 1911, then look at a browning hi-power (not available in 45). All of these can be had in exactly the same size in 9mm, 40, and 45. So caliber should only be a consideration on the terminal end. I woudl advise taking someone along who owns a lot of hand guns and learning what works best for you so you will start off with a gun that you can bet your life on and not want to sell off. If you sell it, all your practice was wasted. It could have been time spent working with the right gun. |

I was about to say the same thing, I actually finger banged a Kahr 45 friday, and the grip was much smaller than any 45 that i have personally felt, almost felt too small for my hand after getting used to my m&p45. Try to get your hands on as many pistols as possible to really see what fits your hands best. Before my g/f actually decided on her new pistol, I must have made her try atleast 20 different pistols just to make sure that she picked one that she would be happy with and fit her great. |
