I'm looking to get an 16" middy HBAR turned down to a Gub'ment profile and re-parked.  I like to support local folks, so does anyone know any reputable shops in the ATL metro that can do this for me?  I'd prefer a shop with AR experience.

Regards,

I don't know of anyone local for sure.  I would guess maybe Gazaway Machine in Alpharetta maybe.

Otherwise, ADCO will do it for you.

I should get a commision.  That is the second time I have recomended them today.

You are probably better off buying what you want and selling that Hbar .... that will probably be the more cost effective route to go.

ADCO only charges $65 to turn down a barrel under the handguard if you don't want the entire barrel turned.  Of course you have to add in the cost of shipping both ways though.

I've got a 16" HBAR I was going to send in to get get turned down.  Either that or sell it.  I guess once you get close to $100 of work, probably makes more sense to sell it.  Not sure how much used barrels are going for though.  Would need to look around the EE.

If wieght is the issue you should consider fluting the barrel. It reduces the weight and increases the cooling surface. It also keeps the rigidity of the heavy barrel. It does cost more than turning a barrel down.

+1.  Depending on twist rate, whether it has M4 cutouts,  and condition, I might even be interested in it, I've been intending to build up a mid-length upper...

Agreed. Somewhere there's a prairie dog or bench rest shooter pining away for a 1/9 hbar at a decent price. I have a Bushmaster 1/9 hbar that weighs 3 lbs. It's amazing accurate and fun as hell for bench rest but I hate bench rest shooting. I keep it around with a 20x SS scope for guests who've never been shooting before, so they can say they've shot an AR and actually hit paper at 100 yards.
