| I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my PC and now I don't have any sound. The system isn't recognizing my SM Bus Controller and I've tried 57,000 different fixes. Any suggestions? |

Go to device manager, double click any unknown devices, go to details, highlight the device id, press ctrl-c, and paste it here. Do this for each unknown device. edit: skipped a step Why? Go to dell.com and put in your service tag #. It'll let you know what specs/hardware your pc has. |

Even better, go to support.dell.com, and enter your service tag and it will list every driver for your system for instant download. I've already hit that up and fixed a few issues, but the sound thing still escapes me. |

I just got the problem with the SM Bus Controller resolved in the device manager by installing another Intel utility. I still don't have sound, though. The only issue I have on the device manager is this. http://i42.tinypic.com/8zjo1v.jpg The device id for the Codec is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7618&SUBSYS_102801DB&REV_1002\4&329F3825&0&0201 hmmm... what service pack level are you at right now? Have you gone through all the Windows Updates? This looks like the UAA fix problem. |
