Want to have a get together/shoot at the firing lane one Sunday or weeknight. I can check to see what it would cost to have one side of the range for an hour or two. They have full auto rentals also. Just an idea since it seems there are a few of us now.

Or do any of you like clay shooting, brush creek is nearby and they have sporting clays and five stand.

Around here don't you figure it would be better to go inna woods somewhere? I really don't like indoor ranges, and when you are only shooting with people you know/know that they know what they are doing, you don't need an RO or anything.

Oh snap... you were doing so well till the last part! I beg to differ. Even in small groups you should have a RO. People's IQ can get suddenly diminished when the tannerite starts going off or when people want to do rapid fire. Amazing that a 8x16 foot backstop can be missed at 25 yards, but it happens.

Even if it is only 2 people, you still need to look out after each other. I'm not saying you need someone with a bright green shirt with "RO" on it and sitting up in a life guard type chair, but all of you need to be RO's and look out for the safety of the group, and call out any unsafe practices that you see.

I have had several conversations with people who think that just cause you are out in the sticks, the rules don't apply. Let's see.... loaded gun behind the line, someone brought out a gun that had one in the chamber from his last range trip, mags still inserted off the line, missing the backstop while doing rapid fire practice, closed actions behind the line, had a guy muzzle sweep some people after a big tannerite target, and one guy took a shot while the range was cold. (If you wondered why I switched to insisting that chamber flags are used out at my place, you now have several reasons for it.)

The only time I regretted it is when I didn't have a talk with someone who was putting some rounds over the berm... if we ever go shooting again I will have a chat with him before we go hot...

Maybe a real RO will jump in here and correct me, but this is how I do it when I go shooting with friends. ymmv

+1

A few years back our hunting crew & friends got together for busting clays, water bottles, expired food, cans & anything else that would be cool.  And wouldn't you know it the redneckest red neck of the crew who is famous for 'here hold my beer & watch this' is the one who got us all to go cold to remind us of the rules, be safe & get back to blasting.
Some body has to be in control of the shooting even if its a reminder to be safe & point out the mistakes being made.

I may be in on this and may have a place to shoot outdoors if thigs work out.  I don't know if I could take more than a few people at a time though.  Although right now I want to quit my job and run off to far away places.  So I may not be around next week.
