Hey guys i got all these handguns I figure I should start using them. I live of Exit 6 on 400. I was wondering if American Classic Marksman was the IDPA place closest to me.
Also, do any of you guys participate in these events? I wanted some advice getting into the sport. Help me out on some good starter information. Alan |

I wanted some advice getting into the sport. Do what I did yesterday...show up and have fun! Mike Benedict runs them in Pickens Co. (search here, there is still an active post for yesterday's shoot), Hi Point has started them in Canton and I too hope to start participating in those as well. I'm sure there are others around that someone will chime in on soon. |

I dont know who is closest to you in ATL but I know that www.gadpa.com has all of the GA IDPA clubs listed someplace. From Gadpa's site: THE GREATER ATLANTA DEFENSIVE PISTOL ASSOCIATION IS AN OFFICIAL MEMBER CLUB OF IDPA.
The GADPA match is one of the best IDPA matches Ive been to ever. Excellent info on the GADPA.com site too. www.gadpa.com |

If you want to drive up to Pickens County I would be happy to run you through the basics of IDPA shooting
Most any weekend is good for me. I have a fair bit of experience as I took up "combat shooting" as it used to be called in 1978 I have socks older than most of the people that I shoot with. If you spent an hour or two with an experienced IDPA shooter you will be a lot more comfortable and safe at your first match. BTW what pistol(s) are you planning on shooting? Mike |

I've been using Mike Benedicts holsters (Talon Tactical) to great success for several years now. You can probably get him
to make you a holster in Saturday morning and go shooting later in the day. If there is one person that I can attribute the lions share of my shooting success to it is Mike Benedict. He is a great guy and loves to help others. My best advice on how to get started and get better is to just start shooting the matches. You will pick up tons of information and meet loads of great people. When I started shooting USPSA Tod (00bullitt) and Rob (mr50mag) were a tremendous help and I've picked up two state titles due to them helping me out. Now I've just got to get back into it since I've about got my personal life and finances straightened out. |

Does everything have to be run off your normal bet that will hold your pants up or can I run everything off a secondary belt? I might come out and shoot South River on sunday depending on how my sub gun match turns out saturday. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile you mean like a battle belt |
|
Sone, yeah like a battle belt or a duty belt like a cop would wear with all their shit on it.
I just don't want to have a different sdet up for uspsa and for idpa and for 3 gun. Basically I want to run my production set up that I used to shoot USPSA with and not have to change shit to my every day belt and back and forth when shooting the different leagues. I just want to be able to throw a cover piece on over my set up and go. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
| Actually....its not allowed per the rules. Rules say no outer belts unless you are LE wearing duty gear. Belt must pass through the belt loops. Equipment requirements between USPSA and IDPA do not interchange unfortunately. Holster requirements are different also. In IDPA....only 2 mag pouches are allowed on the belt. And the holster can not offset or drop. It must fit tight to the belt and show no daylight behind the belt attachment.Courses of fire are not supposed to exceed 18 rounds so alot of mags are not necessary. You usually only need to change mags once during a stage or course of fire. |
|
Its no big deal really. I was just hoping that I could throw the belt on and go.
Just means I'd have to find my drop like AR mag holder since I have a second blackhawk mag holder on it and I could use it and the one I have on my other belt. Holster is a modfied serpa so its not a dropped and offset. Which all this reminds me that I need to make an order with Chris Paty for a Cr Speed belt set up, DOH, and some mag holders. Alan Go to www.idpa.com for rules on the sport and equipment. American Classic Marksman is probably the closest indoor match. There is an indoor range in Cummings, I think exit 13 off 400, they shoot every other weekend. There is a new club in Canton/Holly Springs also. Go to www.gadpa.com for informations on the local Atlanta club. Capel English is the godfather of Atlanta area clubs, he can direct you. |

We shoot every Second and fourth wednesday at Bullseye, and first and third wednesday at Hi Caliber in holly springs. There are no weekend matches at the indoors, there is however a large outdoor match this weekend at south river.. www.gadpa.com is where you need to be. |
