I'm soon to be in the market for my first AR. I am looking at 6920's and the DD models. From what I've read and seen the 6920's are a sure thing but I also like the idea of keeping more of my money in Georgia. I know DD is considered top tier (and their prices reflect that) but do any of you local guys have any experience with them?

I know they've had some financial trouble and put employees on furlough a few months back but haven't seen any reduction in price of their product line. If I end up doing DD would it be worth it to wait a while to see if prices come down?

And one last side question not DD related, what are the 6920's going for locally? I've heard they've dropped quite a bit.

TIA

Hey Kujo,

Honestly I have handled both, and I own a 6920.  DD and Colt are both excellent options.   DDs can be had at 400 J&L for a good price, and they are very well made.  I bought a Colt because they are proven time and time again in law enforcement to work well and are built right.  DD is on par in my opinion, but I got a good deal on the Colt at a gunshow.

Locally the Colt's are around $1299.  Online I have seen them starting at $1150-1199 when they are running specials.    Check out the Colt 6940 as well.  It has the monolithic rail on the top and top notch iron sights.  The same rear sight as the military issues now on M4s.  400 J&L carries the 6940 and 6920s as well.

I think you would be satisfied with either gun, with that said I try to spend my dollars in Georgia when I can.  I just spend some dollars with them and they have a great product.

I have the DD M4.  Love it.  Probably the best out the box ar15 I've ever owned.

Rest of my guns are parts guns - hybrids.  Best of everything for what I need for.  If I could say one negative thing aobut the DD M4 - the RBUIS is junk IMHO.  They could have done better with that.  I also did not care for their forward grip that came with the gun.  Got rid of that too.  Rest was simple upgrades - MOE stock and Pistol grip to CTR and MIAD, YHM A2 FH, ARMS RBUIS.

DDM4's are awesome and out of the box are some of the best DI guns I've seen.

The XV is their "6920" model- 16" carbine w/ m4 bbl. It ships standard with their GREAT A1.5 BUIS and a single point sling attachment.

For the money I can't think of a better made gun in that price range.

Love my DD M4.  Need to take a more recent picture.  I've changed my Surefire setup, swapped the VFG for a Tangodown stubby model, installed a PWS flash supressor/brake and a Rock River 2-stage NM trigger with a KNS pin set.

I'm with ya 83rd.  I dumped the DD BUIS for the Matech and the VFG for a Tangodown stubby.  My only real complaint about my DD was it had one of the worst out-of-the-box AR triggers I had ever felt.  I put the RRA 2-stage NM in it and couldn't be happier.

I'm on to you Shep!  You sat there and told me you didn't that platform and its tiny bullets!  Oh!  They just bounce off your tough Marine skin!  Oh, .308 is soooo much better!  I knew it!  You like these rifles!  I knew it!

I like my 6920 but have never even handled the dd so I can't give an opinion on that one.
