Well, our roof is screwed. We paid to have one repair made on it, but it has had the biscuit.
My wife called a roofer that did a neighbor's house recently. He looked and said the roof is screwed, wind and hail damage. Wife called insurance company. Adjuster came out yesterday with roofer ( Both the adjuster and roofer are very nice, no assholes involved). Adjuster says roof is screwed, wind, hail damage, and the builder never put tar paper or felt on the roof (just shingles on sheathing), roof vents aren't done right, even the repair we payed for wasn't done correctly. The adjuster actually found some stuff that wasn't seen before, he obviously took his time (he was up there forever) and was quite thorough. Roof on detached garage is screwed as well, so they wrote that up also. Waiting on word from the insurance company. This ought to be fun.

| Having just gone through a claim denial for a flood claim (and yes I have flood insurance) contact John Oxendine's office if the insurance company denys the claim and you feel it should have been paid. I filed a complaint on my agent and also the insurance company. You have to go to the Insurance commissioner's website and print and fill out the complaint form. I also wrote a 2 page letter explaining how I was treated and I got my flood damage covered. I would think if you have a pretty good case you could also prevail. Just be sure and send in the documentation from the roofing company explaining the damage. |
| I have a friend that does gutters, he came out one day and said our roof was fucked and to call Allstate. Allstate showed up 2 days later and talked to the roofer, the adjuster didnt even go on the roof. Our roofer walked around circling spots on the roof and the adjuster told him to stop at 14 or so and said it was full replacement. He went to his car and printed out a check for ~$9,000 and handed it to me and said,"enjoy your new roof." |

We didnt shop roofers, he was a friend of a friend. Some of that $9k was repairs to ceiling spots caused by small leaks in the roof. As it stands the money got a new roof with upgraded shingles, vent boxes replaced with the rounded spinning vents, ceiling spots fixed and the whole house pressure washed, and we still had $200 bucks left over. |

Got a new roof last summer. We were denied twice by State Farm. We just kept on pushing and the 3rd adjuster agreed we should get a new roof .
Cost to State Farm was $15500.00 with only 500 out of pocket. Our Roof was 12 years old and took 54 Squares. No wonder they didn't want to put a roof on our house! |

I actually just replaced my roof under an insurance hail claim. All the neighbors had been using J&M roofing, so I called them. At just 34 squares, they wanted $9500 for a 30 year roof, which I thought was ridiculous. I got a second estimate from Hicks for the exact same thing, and they were about $7500. The guy later called me back and dropped down to $6500, and he threw in a chimney shroud.
The funny thing is, when I told the guy from J&M his price was a tad high, obviously, he was not happy. He actually seemed irritated that I shopped his price around. Then, when he came out to bid a neighbor's house, the valve on my gas meter mysteriously got shut off. Not locked like the gas company did it, but just flipped off. Two morals of the story: don't use J&M roofing, and just because you've got insurance (of any kind) doesn't mean you shouldn't shop prices on the services; it can lead to a lot of waste, and mean higher premiums for everyone. I tried to warn my neighbors, but they didn't want to hear it. PM me if anyone wants the number of they guy who did my roof. |

Update:
Insurance adjuster came out, said the roof is toast, wind and hail damage, roof on detached garage is toast as well. Damage inside the house, etc, etc. Adjuster said about 15k in damage. Got the first check from the Insurance, and had to FedEx it to California to be endorsed, since they (BoA) couldn't get anyone here that had the juice to do it. Scheduled for Jan 26th as the roofing date. |
.After rounding up what i needed i got a siding man that i knew and my stepdad got a roofing crew he knew.2 days later I had a fixed house. It only cost about 4500 to fix it.And then me and the wife went out for a REAL NICE dinner!
