Looking to get an AK type Airsoft gun for my son.
I want it to be durable enough to handle a 15yo & be reasonable in price.  Does they exist in the $100 to $150 price range?  He has pointed out the 'Aftermath' brand but I'm clueless if these are GTG or another piece of crap like any of the Wally World stuff he has bought before.

Any & all help would be appreciated.

Bought an Aftermath off e-Bay.  Pretty well built & accurate (also easily punches holes in cardboard from 25').

Beware anything that says plastic gearbox.......good enough to play around with but may not last long .

At the local Walmart, they have airsoft ARs selling under the DPMS brand.

Anyone know who makes these and whether they're worth the money (about $80-$90 IIRC).

Possibly on my Christmas shopping list, but I don't want to give someone a piece of junk.

It has been some time since I looked into these(~5 years).  Back then there was a lot of cheap chinese CRAP that wasn't worth your time.  The better quality stuff generally ranged from $250-400.

I'd say your best bet is to call or go to Airsoft Atlanta and tell them what you want- they can probably point you in the right direction.

YIKES!

I could buy the kid (13) a 10/22 and a couple bricks of ammo!

If I thought his parents would go for it, I would, but they won't. They don't even like it that he wants an 'evil' airsoft rifle.

All the Walmart stuff is clear and see-thru or safety orange and stuff.

Not that it wouldn't be fun....but that's kinda embarrassing for a kid and his friends.

Well my son can take his 10/22 to the range but he can't go around the woods behind the house w/ his buddies & play capture the flag.

I'm looking for something that will last a while before breaking a barrel.  Also if it jams be reasonably easy to clear.

Correction on the Walmart DPMS rifle. It's only $68, and yes it's got a lot of clear plastic on it.

Maybe get one of the Walmart FAMAS or M4's and a can of black krylon?

I would also check on youtube, there are a lot of different reviews of all of the guns. Airsoft Atlanta has a very good selection if you want to go to a store front.
