What's up with "may issue?"  How about "shall issue"

"16-11-129.
(a) Application for license or renewal license; term. The judge of the probate court of each county Secretary of State may, on application under oath and on payment of a the required fee of $15.00, issue a license or renewal license valid for a period of five years to any person, which license or renewal license shall authorize that person to carry any pistol or revolver a concealed weapon in any county of this state notwithstanding any change in that person's county of residence or state of domicile.

I'm guessing this bill has a snowball's chance in hell of getting passed this legislative session.  Lotta good stuff in there.

Don't forget that the House Judiciary Committee will be hearing HB615 on Thursday December 3rd.  IIRC they will be hearing it at 9:30am.  We need plenty of supporters to show up.

That's already the current wording.  The parts that make it shall-issue are elsewhere in the code, IIRC.

The judge of the probate court shall date stamp the report from the law enforcement agency to show the date on which the report was received by the judge of the probate court.

Thanks for keeping me straight.  Didn't want to take one step forward and two steps back.

No problem. Our gun laws are WAY too confusing.

Guys, there is a lot of sympathy under the Gold Dome for getting rid of the public gathering law.  Even if we do not get everything, we are going to move the ball forward.  Please do not be apathetic or discouraging.  Put in some effort.  Talk to your representative, in person.  Show up at the Dec. 3 hearing!  Join GCO!

Malum, do you think Sonny would sign something like that?  IIRC, in the past he's been against Church carry, and I think school carry as well.

I just gave myself an early b-day present and renewed my GCO membership.

I have heard he is for keeping the ban on churches, but I have never confirmed it with him.  I have never heard he was for keeping the current felony school law.  He does have guts on the issue.  This is the same Governor who told the press that airport carry was in HB 89 when he signed it, and, in answer to follow up questions, "Do you think it is a good idea?" He told them not only yes, but gave the example of his wife and said she should not be disarmed at night in Hartsfield's parking lot.

I believe we will move the ball forward in 2010.  Like I said, maybe we do not get everything in one year.

It took more than one year to put all these onerous restrictions in place.

Malum, thanks for your insight.  I really hope we can get some more progress this year.  GCO has done a great job at helping get some sanity around our gun laws, and going after the municipalities that don't adhere to state law.  I was psyched about the success with Stone Mountain.  I guess we'll be going there a little more often now.  I'm definitely going to be contacting my Senator and Rep regarding HB615.
