Anyone been?
What's necessary? Being used to Army...not sure what to expect out of the AF ;) Or if there's even a range there...(about to google them...). Any advice on it? Otherwise...will keep running down to hawkinsville and the WMA. |
| As far as I know, no one can use it but military in uniform in mission status. Been closed to the public for years. At least that is the answer i got when I asked. Hell, planning a trip to the WMA in the morning. Thinking about joining the Macon Gun Club as well, but the drive is a bit further. |

I am guessing you meant Marion Gun Club instead of the Macon Gun Club. If so, have you ever been there? I've thought about going there, especially if the firearms safety practices are better than what I've encountered at the WMA. |
| I shot at Robins once back in 91 or 92 on a "sight in your rifle" day. They closed it to non-mission shooting not too long after that. The police pratice range in WR is open to the publinc once a month but somehow I never seem to think about going there. I went once in the 90s also but wasn't comfortable. I have been thinking about joining Marion road too. I haven't been up there yet either but everyone I've met that is a member has been nice. |

Yes, I did. And I would agree about the practices at the WMA as well. I have't been to Marion yet. I hear very good things about the place though. Marion Road is as good as it gets in macon area in my opinion. Ive shot a many of the ranges in Ga as of the last 12 months, Its not perfect (what range is )but for the price per year, its a good deal. |

Intriguing... I am a card carrying military member (Army Guard now) ;) it being AF...didn't figure it would have much in the way of ranges
Looked at Marion Rd...bit of a hassle just to get membership there it seems. *shrug* WMA it is for a while... Its not as bad as you may think, at least 2 of the board members for Marion Road work at Robins AFB. |

Prolly join in January and take care of the first year and background all at once. |

The Robins range has a recently installed (within last 3 years) variable angle bullet trap backstop. I hven't been there since it was installed but i imagine that's not the only money spent on the range during the upgrade. It wasn't a bad range even before that. |

Not a bad thing IMO. |

Roger that... ounce of prevention...
Marion Road is a good club. I've been to a couple of shoots there and the members I've met are first class. 100 yard rifle range is well set up with concrete top shooting tables and a pretty good shelter. There's a 200 yd rifle range with about two benches worth of space. Pistol range is pretty nice. And there are several "black powder" areas that have been used for tactical shoots before. I'm not a member currently, although I'm tempted to join there next year instead of Griswoldville. The best thing about Griswoldville is the 500 yd rifle range- and a 1000 yard option if you move off property to the adjacent power line clearing. I have not done it, but there's a 1000 yard line of site to the same impact zone as the 500 yard range. And Marion Road is a little closer to home than driving out to Griswoldville. |
