So... I'm not a crazy... I'm am not.
When I joined the military I thought I was going to go kill the bastards that attacked our country. Now I'm told that rebuilding the country of the jerks that attacked us is a priority. Screw them. They asked for a fight, and they still want to fight. Why are we building electricity plants and giving them running water? I still believe that if you have them by the balls, their minds and hearts will follow. My Father and I sat down and had a talk the other night about when he deployed back in the 60's and the ROE (rules of engagement) of what he had then and what we have now. I would rather have those then what we have now. To say more is illegal... The new administration sucks. |

Ya know..I have to agree with ya, I am a military brat..was going to join, but got into trouble as a kid...anyway..with that said, my bud just left the Marines after 17 yrs, don't know why..3 more and would have had full retirement...anyway..we talked about the same thing and his very good point was
The civilians of those god forsaken lands didn't ask to be put in the middle of the fight, some joined the rebels, but others just didn't or want to get involved...and there is no reason to let them suffer from our bombing of there homes and work place, or goats We need to help those that are trying to live their lives, and kill those that are involved,or help the opposition |

Times have changed and so has the American public's expectation of war. Also this isn't due to Obama being in the CINC's chair, we've been doing this stuff since 1992 and Somalia.
When we wage war, we wage war. When we're done with it we rebuild the country in the belief that we won't get attacked or messed with again if the nation we destroyed is rebuilt, stable, and realitively prosperous. |

After WW 1, the Brits and French told us "no thank you" when we offered to help write the peace traety.
The punitive nature of that treaty directly led to unchecked inflation and poverty all across Germany and led to the rise of Adolf Hitler. The French got their comeuppance for being vindictive when WW 2 started. If you leave a pile of rubble, rats will take up there and multiply, and then spread their filth to the surrounding area. The same goes for peoples minds and hearts. It was important to rebuild Germany and the rest of the world after the war for many reasons. They didn't harbor nearly as much age old resentment toward us as they do the French, and giving them a hand up helped keep it that way. If we hadn't rebuilt Germany, the Soviets would have, and increased their influence even more, which probably would have led to another war in Europe. The same goes for Japan. Have we had to fight either of them again? As for "kill them all let God sort them out", you can't win their hearts that way. The enemies in the past wore uniforms id'ing them. All of the current enemies all dress pretty much like the general populance. As far as Id'ing them by the fact that they are armed, would you want to be id'ed as an enemy for carrying a gun in a dangerous area? I'm sorry to rain or your parade. This is going to be a hard battle to win for a lot of reasons. In the early days of the all voluntier army, there was a saying: Birdy birdy don't be blue, that damned recruiter screwed me too. Had I not figured out from three years of high school rotc that I did not belong in the service, I can only imagine the kp or worse duty I would have gotten for slipping that into a maching cadence. |

My buddy was in the Marines for six years and other than during training, they had his group that specialized in repairing helicopters and .50 cal guns for the gunships, sitting at home in a reserve base in Pennsylvania fixing things and sweeping up the hangars. He wanted to be out there killing some terrorists or doing something on the front lnes. He finally couldn't take it anymore and left when his contract was up.
I feel your pain and agree with you. Remember the first gulf war with Iraq. We spent all our own money to repair Kuwait, and they have more money than we do as a country. Why did we have to pay for that crap when Kuwaitis are so wealthy that their citizens don't have to work and just collect dividends from oil sales? WTF?? Quoted:
