Is anyone using these facilities? I'm in the gym 4x per week and feel like I'm stuck at a certain level. These folks seem to have very different methods and its got me interested.

I have a couple firemen friends and a buddy in 5th group that swear by it.

I read the WOD from time to time and it looks like a good/intensive program. I wish I had the time and a CF gym was nearby.

I am in the military an it's what we do 5 times a week, the way it was explained to me was that it keeps your muscle groups from getting used to a routine.  You constantly change your crossfit routine so you excerise the same muscle groups in different ways.  This is just my take of crossfit I may be wrong.

The CrossFit concept is catching like wild fire in the .mil world.
Marines, SEALS, and Army are all adopting CrossFit principles in some form or fashion.
Pretty popular with LEO and FF.
I started working out at CrossFit gym this month and I find the work outs to be intense.

I just started going to the gym a month ago, I've been doing the eliptical nearly every day and the weight is starting to fly off. This concept sounds interesting, when I get to my target weight I will look into this!

Ive been in the gym for years and this is the first time ive seen something that really looks different. What I dont understand is how people only go 2 days per week...??? I see they have an unlimited plan too.

Some folks will supplement their CrossFit work out with other training (run, bike etc) or do CrossFit work outs at home.

From what I understand about the program, most folks wouldn’t see much improvement doing less than 3 days week. The program is designed around a 3 days of working out with a day of rest cycle.

I CrossFit on M,W, and F. I will go for 3 mile run or do speed work on a track work on my off days depending on how my body feels. I aim for 5 days of working out in a week.

Most CrossFit gyms offer a free work out. I highly recommend checking them out first. A CrossFit gym is different than your typical gym.

I drive by that place twice a day going to and from work, how do you like it? Having recently hit 40, I need to lose 15lbs and get back in shape.

I have been happy with the training.
I just met one of the trainers since I only  go to the 6:00 AM work out.

They offer a free work out so you can check out the gym.
It would be worth your time to check them out.

CrossFit work outs are intense and many people veiw them as effective.
I am 2 month plan to improve my PFT/CFT scores so give me a couple of months and I will post an AAR.

I read over the web site a bit, I'd be going to the 6pm classes as I have to get my kids off to school in the am.

Cool.

One of the owners, Kyle Maynard was born with a condition known as congenital amputation, but that hasn't stopped him from wrestling and playing football in High School.
Kyle went out to San Antonio to work with some wounded warriors who were looking for way to work out despite their injuries.

Here is a DOD Video on the Crossfit seminar for wound warriors.
This a video are from the CrossFit site http://library.crossfit.com/free/video/CFJ_AgainFaster_Warrior_Scalability.wmv

Watching those guys working out is both inspirational and humbling.

Definately looks like a great workout.  I don't care for gyms though and the P90X has been great for me so I'll stick with it.

CrossFit Rocks! Especially if you are tired of the regular gym routine. Workouts are based on Plyometric exercises, Olympic weight lifting technique, and cardio. Do the WODs to the best of your ability and you will be SMOKED! They look easy when you read them, but when you get into the WOD you're like "What did I just get myself into"?

Try it, I think you'll like it.

We used CF in my unit a while back as an experiment and it did wonders for Soldier's pushups and situps. Run times were not as good becuase there is not much cardio involved CF, aside from the actual work out itself. So I just recommend developing a running program that matches your CF workout to increase or maintain your running (if you're military) or a runner.

CF is a great workout overall and I love it when I do it. I do it every other month to break the monotony of the gym. I also use TRX which is a portable gym and usesable almost anywhere. Highly recommend it for travel, deployments, at home, or even in the gym. Great for not stressing joints (all suspension training) and you make it as difficult as you want.

A lot of military folks, runners and triathletes who CrossFit will want add some sport specific aerobic activities. The CrossFit Endurance is a popular site sport specific routines than you can add to your CrossFit plan.

The Recon Marines that we share a drill center with use P90X and TRX a lot. I saw both used on my deployment last year.
