| I am getting ready to make a gun purchase and I need some direction. I am thinking about droping some coin on a Noveske N4 10.5" but I find my self worried that I am buying something that there is no practical purpose for. Would I be better off just getting the 16" noveske model? |

In your position with the assumption of over-sufficient funds I'd personally vouch for the shorty. Most reason being for that I have a 16" already and would like something different.
Although that assumes you already have a 16" and don't have a 10.5" which I don't personally know about you. And if analog is correct then it seems you'd lose no practicality with the shorter barrel, though I don't know of such things. I guess something that you may or may not care about is the paperwork and processing that goes along with the short one. Something that turns people off (want it now, want it fast attitude.) That's all I know sir. |

The 10.5" weapon can have plenty of practical purpose as a wonderful HTF weapon in the right situations. The reduced lethal potential due to lower velocity is extended a bit with the right ammo, such as some of the good performing 75-grain fodder. Make sure the barrel has a proper twist to stabilize whatever loads you plan to shoot and that Noveske should be a 1:7 so 75s are fine.
Keep in mind you will see about a 100-fps difference between a 10.5" and 11.5" barrel. If shooting with a suppressor you need to be sure the ammo you are running is pushed fast enough to get proper stabilization. If using a suppressor and running the gun hard you really don't want a 416R SS barrel. The excessive heat will damage the barrel and can cause stabilization problems resulting in end cap or baffle strikes. I'd get John's chrome-lined barrel instead of the SS. Saves on weight too. Mark |
