That explains why you're so skinny.    How far you run these days?

Depends on who is chasing me.

I go anywhere from 2 to 4 miles at least four days a week in addition to 1-3 miles with the dog everyday rain or shine.

You know they make cars to get around these days?

Never understood the whole running for "fun" concept.

Do you have a solution to carrying while running?

Not being able to carry has been my lame excuse but I need to get out there and start running again.  I don't think I'd get much running done with an SBR slung across my back - seems I'd be spending too much time talking to the police everyone would be calling.

I've been using a stainless 640 in a cheap clip-on leather holster on my hip.  The sweatshorts I use have a wide string that I tie fairly tight.  Stable enough that I don't worry about it falling out or flopping around too much.  I just wear a thick t-shirt over it and hasn't been a problem yet.

It's lighter than the 229 I normally carry.

I'm running and exercising more plus trying to eat healthier (most of the time) so I can live a while longer.  I'm doing it to hopefully get in the best shape of my life.  I started when I saw the Magpul video and felt like the camera was adding more like 30#s.

The answer to carrying a firearm when I am running is simple - I don't always carry when I run.  I'll carry an ASP in one hand and a good folding blade on my waistband.  I am running in about as safe a neighborhood as you can get and at times when there isn't much traffic through here.  Now, if I am just walking or taking the dog out then I'm 100% of the time carrying.

The bottom line here is that I haven't found a great way to CCW while running and don't want to use that as an excuse to remain a fat ass.  I took into consideration the area in which I run and felt I wasn't at much risk without the 1919A4 under my arm.

I tried exercising once. Way over rated.

And I am married I know when it's time to have sex. Comes every year at the same times. My birthday and Christmas. Luckily the are perfectly spread apart.

Thanks for the response, Book.

I haven't been especially comfortable running/walking in our neighborhood in the past but now that our kooky neighbors are gone I need to get moving.  I lost a lot of weight while Pat was gone but that's all come back since the beginning of the year...go figure.  I'm just tired of feeling blah and looking blah and so on and so forth.  I used to really enjoy 5k runs - I was never fast but they were fun so I'd like to work my way back into that.

I need to get a knife I can cilp to my waistband and take my OC with me.

ETA:  Sorry, Doug.

I never carried while running before but after moving to Augusta a few weeks ago I'm gonna have to change that somehow.  I got chased by a pit bull two nights ago not a half mile from my house.  If I'd been walking with my wife (and by extension, CCW'ing a G19) and the exact same thing had happened, I would have drawn down.

As it was, I just saw the dog, breathed a word my mama wouldn't have been proud of, put my head down, and sprinted.

Thank God it was on a downhill.

A few houses later the dog decided he'd done his duty and left me alone.

Yeah, I think you captured the content well with the new title.  It's doesn't grab your attention like "contact me immediately!" does, though.

I try to get in 15 miles a week. Half on the street and half on treadmill. I usually only get like 10 though.

Wouldn't need to carry while running, people see me and back off.

My cousin in Tenn uses the smart carry band thing.

I have run with my P232 in a smart-carry holster, works just fine.

But I am a treadmill runner for the most part, I don't trust drivers.

I got to where I can run for ages on a flat treadmill, so I now run with it cranked to maximum incline.  Couple of days a week.

Oh and "John has a long moustache"

I work out Mon-Fri in the mornings when I get off work. I do cardio for an hour, weights for about 1 1/2 hours and plus 30 more minutes of cardio after. I work out with a group from work, and needless to say we are not worth a damn afterward. But come too think of it were not worth it in the first place. I love to run, even though every one says I look like big foot when I run(6'4 280) go figure. Keep at it Book not many people have the motivation to do it.

I have really fallen off on my workouts lately. However, in the past couple of days i have picked the weights and running back up and put down the beer . I like to do strength training more so than cardio, but cardio is absolutely necessary along with a balanced diet.

I usually run around my neighborhood and there really isn't anything to worry about in here in kennesaw, so i don't even bother to carry. I doubt that my run is even half a mile but its better than nothing and i'm a horrible runner and i hate running . I like doing lots of crunches and pushups.

Random running stuff:
The humidity has made running a real bee-yatch these past few weeks –– I'd much rather run in the cold.
I generally do the same 3.5 mile loop 3 times a week.
If you're a 'heavier' runner (180lbs for men), you need shoes that provide plenty of support.

My girlfriend helped me pick out some better shoes for running and they have made a HUGE difference in comfort.  Night and day.  I didn't know how much difference it could make until I tried proper gear.

I am 6' tall and now weigh 196.  I have decent muscle mass but nothing like a serious weight lifter.  I am back to lifting some weights though after nursing a messed up shoulder most of this year.  The shoulder still isn't 100% but I can now lift, do push-ups and pull-ups without feeling like the shoulder was going to explode.

I also agree on the humidity.  I am finding it MUCH harder to breath on my runs these days.  That's why I'm trying to get out as early as possible.

I don't run for fun, I run cause the guy with the scythe is following me.  Running does truly wonderful things for my sugar numbers, and I need to make about 20 more years as a minimum.

Need to get back to my running addiction. I'm going to run the Army 10 miler in October, I can do it ugly (proved that last year) but i really want to do it right. Doing the gym for July (to cut weight) Aug/Sept for serious training.

the trick will be not to stop after the run (like I did in 2006 )

Running keeps me in shape and allows me to do anything I want to, when I stop I become (instantly) a 260Lb lard a**.

I bike with my CZ82 in a Camelbak Goblin, I think I could make it work for running.... Have to look at it

This is my kind of thread!

I was 8th in the state at the 3200m (2 mile) distance in high school. AAAAA division.

Then ran for Georgia Tech. Track and Cross Country.

Best mile was 4:18, best 5k around 15:30 or so, best 10k in the high 31s i think.

Finished the Peachtree Road Race in 42nd place one year. Started in the superseeded group about 10 feet from the elites. That was fun. Ran in the same pack as the world record holder for the marathon for a few minutes. :)

Five year old pic at the ACC Cross Country Championships in Arkansas. 8000m distance. Hair has been cut since then. :)

I am about your size, a little heavier, and the weight comes mostly from weightlifting (I can bench 405 pounds), although I certainly do not look like it.  I have had one knee surgery already, and my surgeon told me not to run.  He thought squats and other weightlifting was fine for the knee, but not running.  I asked him if that was because of the surgery, and he said, "No.  Running is one of the worst things you can do for your knees and hip."

My father in law used to run in marathons, and now he has no cartilage left in his hip.

I started running anyway, to try and get into better shape and give the dog some more exercise, and, after a couple of months, on a short, easy run, I tore a calf muscle for no apparent reason at all.  I could not walk on it for a week.  It feels fine now, 7 weeks later, but I am afraid to run on it again . . .
