i'm trying to set up a medium range tactical rifle and have questions about rings and bases.

i've pretty much narrowed it down to to burris xtr rings with matching bases for a remington 700.  i plan on using this scope:

nikon scope

what height rings (low, medium, high) would i need for a 42 mm objective lens?  i'm leaning towards medium but would like confirmation they'll provide the clearance needed.

thanks,

Most likely the medium's will be good, not having that same setup I can't say for sure.

Those rings are an excellent choice I think, they work well for me.

EGW makes a nice base if you need one.

Grab the high ones and don't worry.

isn't the idea to get it mounted as close to the bore axis as possible?  i am not using a huge, 60 mm objective lensed monster....

also, what is the difference in 0 and 20 MOA when it comes to mounts?

The scope had a 49.3MM OD.  1 in = 25.4MM 49.3-25.4=23.9MM/2=11.95MM  The medium rings you chose will raise the scope by 12.7MM, so it should work.
