Other that than, what are the major differences? Does it seem to be as big a resoure hog as Vista?

The task bar is a bit larger and more user friendly, much faster is the only way I can describe it.  Others describe it as stable.  You can download it from a link in Wikipedia...  My brother is a computer/tech type person in the Navy.  He is home on leave and he decided it was time to clean up the family computers.

doesn't it expire in June and you are left w/o a OS then?

It expires in June of 2010.  I installed it on a second OS partition on my hard drive, so I can still boot to Windows XP if I want or need to.

I've been running it on a new build for a month or so - great so far.  Fast, completely stable, some pretty slick cosmetic/interface upgrades over XP.  I like it.

I'll figure out what to do about the expiration sometime in the next 10 months.

I have two minor complaints:
-the start menu is a little goofy - I'd like to get a classic, win2k style menu back
-I want my "directory up" button back in win explorer
