So I am sitting here trying to figure out what I am going to do.
The Spikes lower that I ordered for Jess is due to show up today .... again .... but that is another story. I am going to build her this lower as a "dedicated" 22lr I say dedicated because I am going to use a ceiner conversion kit in it because I have one and it runs FINALLY. Now here is where I am having a hard time deciding on what I am going to do. Since it is going to be a dedicated rifle with a conversion kit in it I am trying to decide wether or not I should but a buffer tube only or if I should buy a whole kit with tube/spring/buffer. None of that is needed in 22 wether or not I use the conversion or an actual dedicated upper. I have my rifle set up for 556 and really want to be able to just take her rifle out and shoot it with 22 and not have to worry about shooting 22 thru my rifle. BUT on the other hand if I put the spring and buffer in it then its already set to go for 556 if something was to happen all I would need to do is pick up a bolt and carrier and slap it in there and I would then have two rifles ready to rock and roll. I am trying to do this on a tight (meaning non existant) budget. So I am thinking if I could find just a used tube somehwere I woudlnt need to worry about finding the rest of the stuff to be able to build the rifle up. I already have a stock that I took off my Stag that I am going to use so Ill have to find a milspec tube which shouldnt be hard to do. I also already have an upper and a set of handguards. Still looking around for an old 1/12 pencil barrel to keep the weight down. The whole plan is to use the slick side upper I have with a 1/12 pencil barrel. That way we can screw the can on the end of it and it will be pretty light weight and I shouldnt have to worry about baffle strikes even using a conversion kit since it will be a lot slower turning than 1/9 and closer to a 1/16 that 22 really excells with. |
