I have a Winchester Model 70 Long action in 7.62x51. Now with having this set up the round does have some room to move in the mag spring well and I have thought about putting a block or something in it to help with this problem. Now if I wanted to add on a removable mag would I be able to do this? I have pics if needed. Where would I start to look for them? (GB EE??) Let me know what you guys think.

Are you sure you have a NATO chamber and not a standard .308? I haven't seen any factory bolt rifles chambered like that.
As for putting a block in the factory mag box? Sure, anything can be done and it's been done before. I would embrace it as much as possible as it allows you to load your cartridges long so that you can put the bullet into the rifling, which is important for certain bullets like VLD's and usually those with a secant ogive. The same can be done for a detachable box mag. If I remember correctly GSU2720 had Jered at Patriot Arms do this for a custom rifle he was building in 7WSM. As for where to get a detachable mag setup for your Winny-I have no idea. |
