I have a quick question about FFL transfers. If I purchase a gun from a private seller or another FFL dealer and have it sent to my FFL, could a family member receive the gun? The reason I ask is because I am currently working overseas and I wouldn't want my pistol or rifle to just set there for a few months.

Thanks

yes.  Just don't make a big deal out of it.  I would have the family members name on the purchase order, as they would be the one who it is legally being transferred to.  That person would also have to fill out the 4473, and pass the background check.

If you are doing this specifically to avoid the check on your self, that is illegal.

If you cannot pass the check, and family member facilitates the transfer, that is the infamous 'straw man' purchase.

Thanks for the info Ranger. Just so people know, I am not trying to circumvent the legal system, I do have a GA CCW permit and I am not some felon. Otherwise I could not do the job I am currently working :-)
