Check this out. A Bill for the issue of "lifetime" GFL's. Wouldn't that be nice.

Quoted:
Allows lifetime concealed carry, but takes away the ability to use it to skip the gun buy check. I'd stick with the 5 year. My name seems to be one that pops for hold. Where'd you get that info from? I didn't see anything in this:http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/versions/hb155_LC_21_0015_a_2.htm that states NICS would be mandatory. |

could you have both? That's the first thing I thought to ask. The fee for such license shall be $15.00 for a renewable permit valid for a period of five years or $40.00 for a permanent license valid for the remainder of the applicant's life. Wouldn't this infer either one or the other? Also, it says "The judge of the probate court of each county may, on application under oath and on payment..." Why not change "may" to "shall"??? |

From GCO's email: We missed an important gun bill in yesterday's Update. Representative James Mills (R-25) introduced HB 155, and it is co-sponsored by Representatives Howard Maxwell (R-17) and Willie Talton (R-145). HB 155 received "House First Readers" status yesterday. HB 155 provides for an optional lifetime firearms license upon payment of $40 to the probate judge. Those desiring to obtain just a 5 year renewable license would still be able to do so for the regular $15 fee, and some people may wish to do so who have unexplained problems with their NICS background checks when purchasing firearms, as the lifetime license would not qualify for a NICS exemption. |

ATF refuses to grant NICS exemption to license that do not have frequent recurring background checks. Their position is that the person may have a prohibitor and without frequent recurring background checks the license circumvents federal law. |

I wonder if the NICS could be "avoided" with the lifetime permit if said permit holder promises to purchase NFA items annually. |
