What are you using it for?  What advantages do you gain by using a vest instead of a different type of load-bearing gear?  Have you ever trained in or used a vest before?

im just doing it for the cool factor....in 3 gun matches...keeps the pistol at your waist...spare mags for both pistol and rifle, and its got padded areas on shoulders for slings.....

might even throw in a walkie-talkie in the sholder thing and a throat mic.

not everything has to serve a complete purpose...i just think it looks cool

I have one the Galls tactical vests with the six m-16 pouches, and accessorie pouches.  It is, in my opion, better than the Blackhawk equivalent as it feels much more durable, and has a heavier stitching in it.

I have one I got from Tapco for free when i bought 6 ar mags at $9 each... you should really try before you buy... I had better ones I sold. I've had cheaper ones that wore out...I like a maxpedition bag better honestly.

I use a Blackhawk Omega Phalanx(sp?) HSV for work.  It works well for what I do because I can carry pistol mags, shotgun shells, AR mags, a radio, handcuffs, OC, and it even has room for a small set of binoculars in a dump pouch on the right side.  There's also attachment points on the back for more pouches/packs/etc., and it will hold a camelback.

With LEO work, the vest works much bettor for me than a chest rig, but for purely shooting-related work, I would probably use something different.  Some people like Blackhawk stuff and some do not.  Personally, all the Blackhawk gear I have used has held up well over the years, and, since I can get it through LEO supply places at a pretty good price, it doesn't beat my wallet up too much, either.

That being said, there are a LOT of good manufacturers out there, and nearly as many vest configurations as there are shooters.  I agree with DKing... try before you buy!

Hey, Eagle... check with manufacturers whose products you are interested in... I know the vest I use is adjustable about four different ways for length, width, etc. It goes from a tight fit on me (I am not a very big guy), to downright HUGE.

Stay away from the CTD Tactical vests! I bought one for the AK class and after the class, 600+ rounds, the shoulder area was shredded. I would look at spending a little more, and listen to the guys who use this stuff on a regular basis.

well...he said he wanted it for looks and cool factor.  price is usually my biggest factor when buying things for cool factor. I haven't fired nearly that many rounds with mine on, but I'll keep an eye on the shoulder.

Thanks for the heads up, maybe I can reinforce it before it falls apart.
