Gas block, post sites whatever. How hard is this to do? Reason is I was looking to replace my upcoming upper's with a low profile gas block.

Thanks.

Easy,  just take note that the pins are tapered, so whack them out from the SMALLER side.

Isn't a vice with a specific ar insert recommended? Or is it do'able without collateral damage without one. Also somewhere I heard that stag pins come out the opposite way...?

also brush some clp on the barrel so you don't mar up the finish. using a deadblow hammer works well to knock it loose!

if you havent allready bought the gas block i would recommend the larue one. rra does not park under the front sights and this gasblock covered it well.

It's actually pretty easy. There is a pic by pic tutorial in the tech forum that explains it very well. I changed mine out using the explanations.

I got my lo-pro gas block from Midwest Industries and it covers all of the non-parkerized area. I would recommend a vise with an AR action block for removing the flash hider ect.

you can also cut it w/ a dremel and reblue... esp if you are covering it w/ a longer handguard.

Just chop off the top of it is what I gathered from that?

There are jigs that are helpful for drilling new holes for a new front sight base. For existing FSB's, a bench vice holding the barrel securely toward the front end is usually enough to knock these out. The jigs really aid in helping keep your punches centered on the pin while you tap them out. A steady hand can accomplish the same thing.

I have a few vices in the shop that are setup with elastomeric pads. I also have the front sight jigs, as well as the resin jig that Brownells sells. The Brownells one is a good jig, but 9 times out of 10 I can get a customer's FSB off with little to no effort in the vise. YMMV.

You can but that's not what I was inferring. Scroll further down through the tutorial and look at the section on free floating your handguard. He installs a low profile gas block and goes through the steps pic by pic.

Rgr. I figured you did mean something else but I hadn't looked at the run through so I wasn't sure.

Make your own cut-down low profile gas block, step by step:
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

It's a little more than half way down the page.

I've not done it, just seen this thread before.
