Ever wanted to see how well and fast you could shoot a steel plate? Well here is your chance, this sunday at Creekside. Check in is by 12:30. Joe will be having yet another steel challenge and I am sure that it will be challenging and fun as well. A little more about it: Steel Challenge The steel challenge is open to everyone and any handgun may be used with no restrictions on caliber. There will be 5-7 various stages and the round count should be around 60 rounds. Scoring: Each stage will be scored off time and hits. There is no limit on how many rounds you fire per stage. Time will start at the sound of the buzzer and end when the stop plate is hit. You will be penalized 7 seconds for every target that was not hit before the stop plate. Items needed: handgun, ammo, eye and ear protection, and a holster is recommended but not required. However, stages where a holster is required and shooter does not have one, the shooter will start with the handgun on a table and unloaded. We have eye and ear protection available for a fee if needed. These events are designed to have a lot of fun shooting at all metal targets. We encourage everyone to come out and join us for these events. You will have the opportunity to meet some great people who love the shooting sport. Check calendar for dates and times: Event will be shot rain or shine. Top prize will be a product with a minimum of a 9mm hole on one end and its VERY VERY quiet. |
Last time I asked him, he told me that I could not use a rimfire. He must have changed the rules. |

Quoted: Convinced my dad to go with me tomorrow, this will be a first for both of us. Yep, I talked mine into coming too. I've shot this thing once before ( I think I shot the first one....) but that was it.... I'm interested to see how many people are going to be there. |

Quoted: Yeah, I am pretty excited about tomorrow. I never really go out and shoot with people, I met a few members here at silencer shoot but thats it. I'm not expecting to do well tomorrow, I just want to have fun (and out shoot my dad)Quoted: Convinced my dad to go with me tomorrow, this will be a first for both of us. Quoted: Quoted: Two goals I share with you!I just want to have fun (and out shoot my dad) Best of luck, and don't rule yourself out... you never know what might happen. Oh I surely wouldn't mind getting something 9mm and quiet, then I just have an excuse to buy a host for it! What kind of gun are you and your dad planning on running? We're bringing 1911's. I was going to bring my suppressed Kimber that I shoot at least once a week but I screwed it up the other day so I'm going with a newish Kimber Warrior. |
| First time for me too, so we will at least have a good battle for the bottom half of the list. I'll be running one of my 1911's as well, unfortunately I have not been shooting my pistols much lately so expectations are low. The fun factor I'm sure will be high, as I have shot some of Joe's rifle matches. |
|
well that was fun... I f'ed up though..... My dad ran a USP tactical in .45, he took 7th place.... I have some very F'ed up S&B .357sig rounds (I was running a USPc) that shoots about like a shotgun. so I took 12th place... Once I switched to the M9 my times went up... But i've still got to do some MAJOR handgun training. I now realize that this is were I lack in training. oh well better luck next time. |
|
Yep, smelly hippie, AKA Speedy, AKA Josh won. 5 stages fired. someone else can do an AAR. because sadly....I don't remember the stages. 17 shooters. handguns used included a nice mix of 1911's and glocks with one USPc in .357, one USP tactical in .45, one Sig P226 (Ikickhippies), 1M92fs, and what i think was a SIG p239. Speedy won himself a can with a glock 34. I do remember Joe stating there was a 0.9 second lead between 1st and 2nd place. |

I think I must have made dead last...seeing as my skills/equipment wasn't up to par... But hopefully, I'll be able to win that EVO on my umpteenth try (like half a decade lol) P.S: I was the only asian on the range, but that doesn't stop me from having a fun time with y'all |

It's all in practice. not that i can help you with that. this USPc killed my butt today... |
| I was really surprised at the 1911's there. They really didn't do all that well. I would consider running one if it was the kind of steel match where plates were knocked down, but honestly 9mm glocks were used by the top two shooters. This match calls for capacity, not big bullets. |

Yeah, the recoil and capacity are definately a dissadvantage. That don't matter much though if you can hit the targets every time. I can't speak for the others, but I had a 1911 just because I like them. I never imagined I'd be shooting in any sort of competition untill last week. I'm glad I did it. Had a blast. I enjoyed meeting some of you. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of ya'll again next time. What's AAR? |
|
I shot one of my 1911's because that is what I currently shoot the best of the pistols I own, which still was not too good. I cannot tell you the last time I shot my 9MM. I have not been shooting pistols much since Joe's Carbine class, I've been working on what I learned in the class. I'll be ready for the next one with the 9MM, because Kick is right, capacity matters on most stages. By the way, thanks to Joe for another great afternoon. |

Quoted: Wow. What kind of failures specifically? What ammo? What magazines? Last week I put about 400-500 rounds through a Night Hawk GRP without any feed issues. I had one feed issue during last week's class and had put about 300-400 rounds through the Special Forces there. The one failure was a bad 10-round Wilson mag (busted feedlip). The first time I ever shot my Ed Brown Special Forces I put ~1300 rounds through it in a weekend class and there only experienced the same 10-round Wilson failure a couple times.Quoted: I was really surprised at the 1911's there. I wouldnt know how to describe the failure except that the slide did not fully go back into battery, there was about 1 to 2cm of brass still visable. Oh, and guess what kind of mags it happened with all three times? Wilson combat 10 rounders... My dad's Springfield ran decent but we noticed a few weak points in it. His one piece guide rod kept coming unscrewed and when he showed me I saw that the screw holding the rear sight in had come about half way out as well. Borrowed a 1911 multitool from ikickhippies to tighten them back up. Now he wants me to order him a guide rod plug and new sights

Yep. Wilson 10-rounders. Not surprised. Want to buy a few? Not wanting to thread drift from the event.. Sell them on the EE and pick up some Chip McCormick 10 rd Power Mags. Back when I was running a 1911 I used both the 8 and 10rd mags very successfully. My Kimber wouldn't run with the Wilsons, but the CMs worked great. Anyone doing an AAR? What are Joe's steel challenge matches like? Anyone shoot Joe's and the Griffin Steel challenge? Are they alike? PICTURES? |
or is this an Iron sights only shoot?
