Greetings, I finally got a chance to shoot a new AR I've had in the safe for a couple years and never shot. It's a stag I bought already assembled. I had a few health issues pop up that made the delay inevitable he
I tried a colt mag and a few others and they all did the same thing. Tried out 2 different types of factory ammo.

This rifle hasn't been altered or touched by anyone other than myself.

I tried about 20 rounds through it????

Any thoughts on the problem will be appreciated !

Thanks

Bill

What brand ammo are you using?

The only time I had that type of malfunction is when I had a Bushmaster M17 Bull pup. It worked great using everything except wolf. It would fire, extract, and eject, but the bolt would not come back far enough to strip off a new round from the mag.

Well since it's ejecting I doubt the extractor is at fault, it's likely either the buffer/buffer spring or you are leaking gas off of a loose carrier key, pull your bolt carrier group out and make sure the key doesn't move(not even wiggle) and that the allen screws are tight all the way and hopefully staked down.

Also what length barrel is it and what type of buttstock is on the gun? It may simply have the wrong type of buffer or even just the wrong buffer spring.

Finally got around to going to the range today and ran into a problem. It would fire and eject but not bring another round into battery.

i had a Stag M4gery upper that did the same thing, i sent it back and they redrilled the gas port. it ran great after that, only shot way left and the barrel was loose i sent it back and they gave me a new upper assembly, in fairness they paid for shipping both ways, both times. my new upper runs great and shoots straight, i love it and would recommend them to anyone. just call or e-mail Stag and they will make it right

Did ya get a deal, Deal, DEAL on that Stag?

I agree it sounds like a gas issue.  I would check the carrier key.  I've yet to see a Stag key properly staked or even staked at all.  If it is extracting the extractor is fine.  The bolt carrier is basically going back far enough to eject but not far enough to strip a round.

Stick a magazine with ONE round into the gun and fire.  Is the bolt locking to the rear on the empty mag?  I'm guessing not.

The problem you describe is most often gas related.

If you are in this area bring it by and I'll take a look at it.

Thanks for the advice!

It's a 16" barrel m4 top with an A2 butt stock. It initially came with a multi position stock, but the dealer swapped it out for the A2.

I don't use wolf ammo in a AR. It doesn't make sense to spend almost $800 on a nice rifle and then feed it the cheapest crap on the planet.

It was PMC south african and UMC Ammo.

Thanks Mark! It was not holding the bolt open! and once it seemed like it took a wiggle to get the mag to latch?

I'm not sure if it was a deal dealhere
Thanks

If the stock was changed from a collapsible to a rifle I would guess that it may have the wrong buffer and/or buffer spring.  The collapsible stocks use a slightly different setup than the rifle stocks.  Pull out the buffer and spring and check that first.

Here is a picture of a rifle buffer spring

Not sure how you can compare the springs without having them side by side.  Does anyone know the length of an uncompressed rifle spring?

Have one disasembled in the closet right here...  ~12 3/4 inches.

Is there an "H" engraved on the front of your buffer?  They might've kept the heavy buffer out of the collapsible stock when you swapped it around.  It will also of had too short of a spring for that length stock though it won't be obvious to look at(the spring will still push the buffer all the way forward.)
