the other night about 10:30, one of my hounds starting raising holy heck back near the rear fence line of our property.  the adjoining property owner has been doing some work, and i went to see what was up.  i had my g30 and a hand held spot-lite.  i realized about half-way to rear fence, that this wasn't ideal, as the spot lite is kinda of heavy/bulky, and requires a dedicated hand.

it turned out to be nothing, but it really made me start to think about a mounted weapon light for my ar.  i have a mid-length 16" stainless upper from RRA that i installed on a double star lower i put together.  i have an eotech 512 mounted on the flat-top with a rra dominator mount/buis.  i am not super keen on having a full rail installed (don't really have the $$), but wondered if there was some other means to mounting a light/pressure switch.  any recommendation would be great.  also who/what model lights are you guys using?

I cant remember who makes it but there is a small piece of rail that clamps on either side of the FSB and would give you a place to mount a light to as well.  IIRC its only a inch to two inches long...... just enough to do a light or laser.

I'm running a Surefire 951 on my mid length.
If $ is an issue, it's not as big of an issue as you may think for the mount....
You can pick up a picatinny rail for about $10 almost anywhere that will mount onto your mid length handguards, or utilize some of the other options noted.  That surefire's gonna run you about 3 C-notes or more though (one currently in the EE for an absolute steal!).

That ball's in your court though.  What's the price tag on your comfort/security level
That's a personal choice only you can make.
