| Does anyone have 5% tint or any tint below 35% on your front windows? On friday morning I am going to put 5% on my front windows so my whole truck is at 5%. How many of yall have got tickets, where are you located, and how likely is it for the police to stop me for 5%? |
|
I have had 5% on every car that I have owned(6). Now out of those 6 cars, I have been ticketed 4 times for illegal tint- Twice while driving the same car by the same cop within two weeks. All 4 tickets were issued by GSP in different counties. It seems like they are the only ones that will stop you just for the tint. I also have tinted my front windshield on three of them. It is the best $$ spent. I would not go less than 50% on the windshield though because 35% is just to dark at night. I have been driving for 13+ years now and only have had these 4 issues. |
VERY Likely, IN GA, you can have no more then 32% on any window, and none on the windshield below the ASI Line. |
|
If you mean the windshield, I'll write a ticket for that if I ever see it. As for the other windows, I pull people over for it all the time. It doesn't mean I write tickets for it (unless I'm taking you to jail for other things) but I do use it to interact with the driver. You'd be surprised how many times I go to jail for stops like that. |
| Thanks for the replies, I am not going to put any tint on my windshield. I just don't want to risk it that much, and it seems like it would be hard to see out at night. I already have 15% on my fronts and it just doesn't seem dark enough for me anymore. The only law enforcement I am really worried about is the GSP, as the Forsyth county sheriff seems pretty lax on tint laws. |

i had 5% on all windows except the windshield. itwas left plain but i had a little strip on the top. my side and rear are 5%. i had that until i got stoped at a roadblock in Burke County going to the "Spring Thaw" party that is down there every year. i ended up having to go to court and pay my 160 dollar fine. i think its gay that they made me pay a fine for it, even though i told the guy i'd rip it off and he could watch. but then again just think if your a LEO and had to walk up to a car that had tint you couldnt shine your light through. and with the windshield being tinted with 5%, you should get a ticket for being a dumbass.(not directed at you m1ajunkie) |

A friend of mine got a ticket in Snellville area. I believe he has 20 % on driver windows and factory tent on rear windows of the SUV. eta: I used to have 20% a few years ago on my old truck. I just haven't gotten around to getting them tented on my current truck (driver windows), as I want to stay legal, but don't know what 32% is actually going to do for me... probably not much. |

welcome to lowndes country if you have anything below the legal limit stay out of remerton GA it is a shitty little college town in Valdosta. They make all of their money from speeding, tint and alcohol related tickets. also another thing Remerton PD were notorius for ticketing for 2-5 miles over. Once the law prevented them from doing that, they changed all of the streets in their town to 26 mph or less and called them residential. ASSHOLES. When I was in college i left my house on the way to the library and got a ticket for 32 in a 25. Just stay out of that place. |
| My wife has 5% on her Grand Prix. Been on there for nearly 5 years and only had 2 LEO's stop us. One was Braselton PD on the side of I-85 of all places. Got a ticket and payed the $60 ticket. No biggie. My wife was stopped in Auburn, GA, but the cop didn't give her a ticket. Just a friendly word of advice. Other than that no problems. You can see through the windows with the sunroof cover open, so that how she usually drives. |
+1 I always have my driver/passenger windows tinted to match what the factory puts on the back (20%?). I do this because it's freaking hot here. I've been doing it for about 15 years and never had an issue. |
|
I worked at a tint shop for a while a year or two back. 5% is almost limo tint (.6%) man. you can't see out of it at night. they made most of our money off idiots who put too dark of tint on their cars ($230 bucks) then got a ticket (around $120 bucks) and then had to pay us to strip off the old tint (around $150) and reinstall legal tint (another $230).... so save yourself the $560 bucks and do it right the first time..,. Also do NOT use any tint other than Lumar. 3m and all the other brands are SH!T!!! |
| I've got 15%. I think the GSP has tint meters standard and a few other counties I'm sure, but not most of them. Hell, the GSP doesn't even patrol after dark anymore so forget about them. They need a meter to write you a ticket and they're like 100$ so most places don't get them. I've never had a problem. Go for it! |
I had an old police crown vic that still had the tint on it, never got stopped, had to roll down the windows to see out at night |
+1 hate Remerton. like Charlie O's though. and no rockin' rodeo for this guy |
|
Stay out of Conyers. I got a $150 ticket (8:30 Sunday morning on the way to SRGC driving the speed limit with a trunk full of guns) for tint that was supposed to be 35%. I was stopped specifically to check the tint and the cop's meter read just below the limit. I took it back to my dealer whose meter read it as legal. I tried to talk to the cop's supervisor about it and when I asked to see calibration records of their meters I was told I was "being ugly". Bottom line they didn't have calibration records. I didn't have time to take off from work to fight the ticket in court so I just paid the fine. They didn't care if I removed the tint, they just wanted the money. |

saj195, that is just wrong. 7, 8, and 9 (and perhaps 10) simply need to be repealed. Thanks for posting that statute (even if the statute itself ticks me off). |

Are you going to get it stripped off now that you got the ticket? |
I wouldn't if I were him. Risking a ticket is preferrable to getting recognized driving a Chevy.
|
Not sure if I'm gonna rip it off or not, just depends on the fine amount. I am proud to be a Chevy man, but I just like my privacy and in my opinion it looks awesome.

The second is always more $$$$$$ than the first |
